I read the older ones cycled shorts fine but they changed a few things internally at some point which prevented shorts from cycling so the barrel was changed to long & long rifle only. I tried some CCI short today and they cycled fine. Anyone else have this experience?

Haven't tried shorts.

However if there are problems with shorts, you can get the CCI Quiet-22, which is a 40gr bullet at 710 fps in a LR case, which compares well to a short which is a 29gr at about 830fps or 1080fps for HV

I know I am a bit off your topic but I like
shooting shorts out of my Henry. There is
something cool about the quietness of them

I have never bothered much with shorts... Noise has never been a problem anywhere I shoot, but last year for the heck of it, I bought a brick of CCI Quiets to try in my bolt actions... As luck would have it, they sucked... But what I discovered was, they shot great out of most of my lever guns out to 30 yards... It turned out to be a good grouse and rabbit load... And they are quieter.

The one I had in the '90's was marked ".22 S/L/LR" on the barrel. I shot shorts and LR's without any problems.
