Anyone have a 6-40 x 3/4 Fillister head screw?

I assumed what I needed was 6-48, which I have. But it appears it's a 6-40. Any chance someone has one?

(For the curious, it's for the end of the magazine tube of a Marlin 1895. Screws through the end cap into the dovetail under the barrel. I need a longer one for a project.)

Fastenall might have them, but will want you to buy a full box of 500 or so. Not good people to deal with in my experience.

Give me a day or two. I likely have that.

Fastenal Canada has I'm sure
I looked on their website abd didn't find them, although they do have a LOT of fasteners and I might have missed them.

@Cocked&Locked: Yes, I'd have to buy a box (prob. 100) as they are basically suppliers to the trade and 100 would last me well into the next century!
But if you have one in a dusty corner, i'm in :)

I've e-mailed Rusty Wood as well (Peter Riedel) who is a 5 min. drive from me.

Problem solved

PM your address and I'll send ya one.
Many thanks but pmaruk beat you to it :)

When/if the border opens I'll check my fav. hardware store in Bellingham, Hardware Sales, who might actually have them. They have a good selection of 6-48, 8-40 and even 5-40/44. Or I could get some from Brownells and have them sent to my gf's place down there.

I keep one of the Brownells assorted screw kits topped up. I have found that I dip into it quite often.

It's always the one you never think you'll need that ends up being "urgent." I have a dozen each 6-48 & 8-40 but never thought of 6-40 until now.

The other day I was wanting to mount a rear sight bridge on a Mk. III Ross rifle receiver. Guess where I found 4 screws that would fit?

Done! Pmatuk's screws finlally arrived via Canada Post ;)

It's a "shade tree gunsmithing special" and won't win any awards for beauty (unlike the Wild West Guns mount that inspired it) but it should be solid. I made the tube from a piece of 3/4" EMT and shimmed it with some plastic from a 5L motor oil jug, duly degreased and epoxied in with J-B Plastic Weld, which provided a tight slip fit.

The new screw had to be a bit longer than the original, and with a deeper head to bridge both the light mount and the mag tube stud, which has a rebated opening to accept the head, so I made a collar by turning down a 6-32 hex nut- jamView attachment 442059ming two together on a screw, chucking it in my drill press and "milling" it with a lathe file (Yes, I know- poo-poo bad for the bearings, but I don't have a milling machine.) I then enlarged the opening in the nut with a needle file to slip over the 6-40 screw.

The Weaver base will probably be replaced with a bit of Picatinny rail and I may drill a second set of holes on the side so I can mount the light on the side. In that position, the spill from the Surefire Nitrolon LED will light up the white line front sight. If I mount the Vortex red dot, the light can stay on the bottom. The light is in a cheap 30mm scope/light mount that I've shimmed to take the 26mm light.

I have the Surefire currently mounted on my Model 1894 mag tube with a "butterfly" type clamp, which probably would have worked on the 1895 but I thought this might be more recoil-resistant, and who can resist yet another project?

The marauding 300-lb. black bear which inspired this project seems to have moved elsewhere for now, or maybe hibernated. Either way, he'll likely be back.

BTW, I picked up some P60 LED bulbs from Amazon.ca to increase the output of my light. It originally had the 65L tungsten bulb, which I replaced with an early LED which was a lot brighter, perhaps 300L. These claim 1200L and although I don't have any way to measure, I compared it with my Fenix UC40UE which is 950L max. and these were pretty close. Here's a beamshot at around 30m/95'
