Anyone have a clue as to how hot an M14 barrel can get when uders sustained fire?

In Vietnam M16's were shot so hot the barrels would glow cherry red then white hot then droop and sag like snot .
Hot enough to cook off the powder let alone the primers --

Well that is what happens when you empty a full magazine of 20 rounds at the slightest rustle of a branch. And then proceed to dump 5 or 6 more magazines if something was still moving.

I've seen an M14 barrel turn a nice dark cherry red after firing many rounds in a row. This was back in the day when we could have 20 round mags and ammo was cheap. It didn't cook off then nor did it seem to alter function or accuracy all that much.
