I have a few questions for you Varmint/Target shooters using the Savage 12 LRPV in .204 Ruger

what type of bullets & bullet weights do these rifles shoot best with?

Are you doing anything extra to the factory rifle to improve accuracy?

anything I should consider before I start working on a few new loads for this .204 Ruger this winter?

What kind of glass you running on your LRPV varmint rig?

When I first got mine, factory Hornady grouped like buckshot out of a 12gauge.

It really likes 32gr Sierra Blitz Kings.

Now sits in a XLR chassis with a Leupold 8.5-25X50 VX-III.

As for accuracy improvement, try setting your action screws to 32 inch pounds.

35gr Berger MGFB Varmint or 39gr Sierra Blitzkings on reloads are the go-to rounds.

For whatever reason The .204R is a cartridge that just doesnt reach it's potential from the factory 32/34/40 or 45gr offerings currently available. Doesn't seem to matter what make of manufacturer the rifle is from.

Tikka T3 LS, sporting 6.5-24x50 for glass is my setup.

So your running a Tikka T3? when I checked the chamber of my former Tikka T3 tactical in .223 I couldn't load my reloads to the lands so I had bullet jump, i.e. chamber was to long. Have you checked your chamber length?

Now the best I could do on factory ammo was just under 2" groups on that Tikka when I was finished making my first load tests I had a group of .380 on 3 rounds. Now this is a different caliber but you might have the same issue of bullet jump.

I posted these questions so I might get an idea on a starting point so I don't waste too much money buying bullets that don't work well.

I tried 32gr Amax and 32gr Nosler Ballistic tips before the Sierra's. Was not happy with either of them.

I have run a few Berger 35gr with pretty good success but supply was limited.

I chose to use lighter / faster bullets in mine. I have yet to find gophers at a distance that I cannot hit when I do my part. I have other calibers for reaching super far out but gophers are hard to spot at those distances.

So for your .204 Ruger the 32gr Sierra Blitz Kings works for you & the Berger 35gr but limited availability.

have you tried any .40gr pills or just the lighter bullets? by the way you are talking about the Tikka T3 in .204 right?

Savage 12 LRPV repeater.

Only able to find one box of Berger 35gr when I was doing load testing.

32gr SBK's work very well in my rifle.

I have never fired anything heavier than the 35gr Berger.
