To add, the one above is mini action so I'd have to see if the wee action can fit a .390" rim diameter. That would be a sweet thing chambered in
7.62x25 Tokarev/.30 Mauser. The .32-40 would need to be on the larger action.

Probably because you live in the land of living Skies... I'm stalking means sneaking up behind the hill of a dugout... I got an elk that way, getting in the bottom of that turn of the century irrigation canal Southwest of Suffield... The Ronna Lane.. stalking is definitely hard in the prairies. Maybe that's why you're struggling with the concept?

Thank you for pointing that out when here I thought I was just lacking the 'correct' tool for the job.
Yer just not getting it Gatehouse....you can use any rifle/slug gun you want to "stalk game", but the definition of a "stalking rifle" is very well defined. Yours isn't one....
Now that's, a stalking rifle. And gorgeous too.
I have one of those, just a little rougher around the edges.
He knows that... he just likes to be obstinate and stir the pot... and once he gets a reaction he starts to argue on all the technicalities and minutiae unrelated to the original argument, he even convinces some of the jurors... you know he consulted for O.J Simpson's lawyers, eh?

I think it all boils down to "What species do you want to stalk? What type of terrain and environment will you be stalking in?
and what gun inspires you to want to go stalking.
Me? I stalk all of the deer species here in the Kootenays, my walnut and blued steel hunting rifles suits me just fine!

Very well defined? Not really. Some people have looked at rifles that were traditionally used for UK deer hunting (they call it stalking because hunting is riding horses with hounds and bird hunting is shooting) and decided that is what a stalking rifle is.
They don't seem to understand that UK deer hunters (stalkers) are just like us and use a variety of hunting (stalking) rifles, and rifles evolve and change in time and so do their stalking rifles.
If you look on a UK stalkers website you will see a variety of firearms that they call their stalking rifle. Of course, blue and wood bolt action rifles are well represented but there are also many stainless synthetic bolt actions and some lever action rifles and a few of their legal "black rifles" too. Some of the rifles are more like what we would call a precision rifle and they have big scopes with turrets. Silencers are legal there so many of the rifles wear them, regardless if they are wood stock or not.
Of course, there will always be narrow minded individuals that will proclaim that only their definition of a hunting (stalking) rifle is valid. However, when we look at the different styles of rifles pictured in this thread, it's very apparent that not everyone shares the same views.
