Anyone have a Stalking rifle to flaunt?

Haenel Jaeger 9, break-barrel single in 7x65r; decocking safety, terrific set-trigger, excellent accuracy and return to zero after assembly. The ergos are perfect for me, and it weighs nothing. The QD scope mount is a bit clunky, may need to be replaced with something more suited to the delicate little gun.

Aside from a few coyotes, this little buck is the only game I have taken with this gun so far, but that will change. As much as I admire and enjoy the Ruger #1...I still have a couple and have taken lots of game with the model...they don't really say "stalking rifle" to me because of their weight. This thing has a completely different feel to it, handles like a finely balanced fencing foil; the Rugers, by comparison, are battle axes.

A thing of simplicity and beauty. What a great calibre too! Thanks for sharing.

This is my stalking/defense combo rifle that I used it for hunting/defense while I was working solo in remote wilderness areas of BC & Alberta as a self employed freeminer.

Shortened to 21" barrel Rem 700 LSS in 375RUM my two loads are 260gr Accubonds @ 3020fps and 350gr TSX/Woodleigh/Northface @ 2450fps.

My self-imposed limit was 500 yards for hunting due to I just never took the time to shoot it further.

Only scope I use now is the Leupold VX3 4.5-14x40mm B&C reticle and an XS Sights rear Tall Weaver backup ghost ring sight front sight is from NECG.

I'm currently looking at switching over to an orange Cadex Tundra Strike stock this will allow me to use AICS style detachable mags.

interesting choices of scope. i would have think the higher magnification one was really short on eye relief but what work for you.

Love those Haenels, great deal for what they are. I had other interests when wolverine had them, you snooze you lose

I keep checking back to this thread ;), on a more than usual basis. At the moment, while watching the 'news' on issues from south of the border, I've been giving a few items from my safe a T.L.C. rubdown. Two I'm 'working' on at the moment are a full wood Lipsey Ruger Hawkeye M-77 in 7x57. The other, a Marlin GBL in 45-70. :)They should fit the definition of the stalking rifle category.

Tracking, stalking, same thing. 7600 in 30-06, been the same way for 14 years, it'll be the same till I die and the gun goes on to my boy.

I have my traditional stalking rifle marlin guide stainless 45-70 ,As you can see stock got marked up .Then theres the lowly ruger american predator in 6.5 creed ,that has a plastic stock ,scope cost double the gun, bone ugly.shoots .30 minute of angle for 5 shots at a real hundred at sharon gun club .Took out in the really nasty weather being walking all day in the snow and rain and goes bang all the time.even had the action freeze solid in an ice storm ,going back to truck and shot a grouse .worked the bolt no problems guess the shot got the ice off the action, electrical tape at the muzzle saved it from plugging up with ice .my hat and three week old beard had icicles on them.again ugly but does the job. Had the cowboy out for a long walk and had a sleet storm earlier in week that made me spend a while to clean it and oil all metal parts and wipe down stock until dry . Took the ruger for the rest of the hunt as the weather was real nasty with the rain and sleet.

First off, sorry it's up-side-down... I can't seem to control for that when posting here. It's a 2013-made Brno Effect in 308. It's on my "to the grave" list. With a Bushnell Elite 3500 3-9x40 and Brno base/rings, it weighs a hair over 8lbs. It's a real shooter and under that heavy utility poly finish is a really nice piece of Turkish walnut.
