hey guys, a winchester 1300 camo 12ga has come up and was wondering if any had any first hand experience with them. any reviews? how would they match up against a 870 or mossberg 500? thanks

This would be the order of quality 870, 500, 1300, the action has been around since 1965 they are not very smooth and they have a inherit problem of double feeding cartridges, the throat in the mag tube has a two piece plastic insert that tends to wear out causing this problem this being said there are millions of them out there being used .

I have owned all three, including 2 1300's. I had problems with one of them, but the other worked like a dream. I'm not a fan on how the action release is recessed into the frame in behind the trigger guard, but that's just me. As far as comparing to Remington or Mossberg, it's a Ford/Dodge/GM argument. You'll find lot's who swear by each one, and lots who think each one is sh#t. See what fits you the best and enjoy.

:agree:

I traded mine, didn't like the stock, and the forearm tended to cause me to short stroke and jam the thing.

I bought my 2200 (Canadian magnum) new back in 1980? or so. Always been reliable, no problems with ejecting, short-stroking (a.k.a. operator error), double-feeding, or any plastic parts existing in the gun in the first place. Loads easily, disassembles easily, and love the Winchokes with knurled external rings outside the barrel (don't need a wrench). I found it faster and smoother than the 870. Doesn't balance as well with the aluminum receiver, but that's minor.

I own and use a 2200 too Grouse Man, but the question and review was on the Winchester 1300, I have never had a problem with Mossberg, Remington, Ithaca, Browning, Baikal, and 1200 Winchester pump actions The 1300 however had a forend which because of designed length, and unusual shape, (it was a deluxe edition walnut one with checkering and unusual shape not the plain jane one) caused me no end of problems. All points to consider when buying one.

As you might guess I like my 1300, I've seen two 870's jam with Federal 3" Steel waterfowl loads (don't tell me it's the shells) 1300 ate them for two seasons of goose work no problem. I've never heard of a 1300 blowing up (I'm sure it's happened, even Krighoffs do it) however I know of atleast two 870's that when blammo and thats just in my area.1300's are every bit as good as the other similar pumps and better than plastic and pot metal Mossberg 500's and the new Trashy 870 expresses. Do a search and see how many Remington 870's have had problems, compare that to the 1300. The 1300 is better than the 870 as Remington's QC is junk right now, buy one and enjoy it all those 870 lovers probably saved you a couple bucks by lowering the demand for 1300s.
