I bought a Savage 93 fvss this winter and am itching to shoot it. (Holidays, snowed in range, cold weather etc kept me from shooting all my new guns this winter).
Curious as to what type rifle and ammo combo you prefer and what is your avg group size? What distance do you normally shoot it at? 25,50,100?
What power magnification do you have on top?
Thanks for your input

I have the same rifle. It only seems to like Hornady 30gn which is fine and can shoot 1 1/2" groups at 100yds with no wind.
My 9422M classic only seems to like the Winchester 40gn hollow points (my favorite rounds) and groups about the same as above. The 45gn dynapoints are next best at about 2 1/2".
Anything else in either gun shoots about 4" groups.
I would like to try Remingtons but have never found any.
Cheers
Prostaff 7 4-12 on the savage
Vortex 3-9 on the winchester

I picked up 2 boxes of Hornady 30gr and will get some CCI Maximags and Winchester this week. I cant wait as I am a rimfire-aholic. The .17HMR didnt quite do it for me though. I had a rifle (Savage 93 BVSS and a Taurus revolver in .17HMR but just couldnt get into the round)
I have at least 6 or 7 .22LR so the mag is gonna be immediately liked unless it throws shotgun spread groups. I forget to mention I put a Bausch & Lombe 3000 4-12x40 scope on top.

Hi, I have a Savage 93 BRJ with Bushnel 4500 4x16x40 DOA 600 this thing shoots steady groups from .75 to 1.15 with CCI 40gr. Maxi Mags HP 1910'. Remember there is no match grade ammo for 22 mag. I wish they would put 40 gr. V Max in the 22 mag. As for the 30 gr. V Max I found the CCI shoots around 2220' to 2240' and the Hornady shoots 2185' to 2200' groups opened up slightly. All my shooting is mainly done at 100', I have shoot at 50' and my groups were .33 to .55. Groupings could be better just the person at the end of the butt stock is not steady. My rifle is not bedded, plan to do it sometime down the road.

22mag accuracy is why I bought a 17HMR lol.
22mag is not bad for hunting, but those 17's are really impressive for rimfire accuracy.

I have an Anschutz [fairly recently acquired] It is a 54 action, with double set triggers and a sporter weight barrel.
It really likes the silver box Winchester HP ammo, but sprays the 30 grain CCI stuff. Not bad with the 33 grain
Remington Accutip. With the 40 grain ammo, I shot 2 consecutive groups at 100 that are sub-moa. Not bad, since
the 22 WMR has a reputation for spotty accuracy. D.

I purchased a Marlin XT-22 MTW and put a Diamondback HP 2-8x(33?) on it. Have shot it three or four times at the range, seems to like the 30gr bullets alright, shoots best with the Choot'ems, CCI 40 HP's. I can't remember which ammo shot badly, there were about 4 types out of the 8 or 9 that I tried last summer that you'd swear were shot from a different gun if looking at the targets side by side.

I believe the old adage about matching the ammunition to the gun started because the .22mag was invented!

Bought a CZ 455 Canadian .22 Wmr a couple years ago.
Shoots hornady 30 gr v-max, and federal 50 gr game shocks incredibly well.
Of course some mild scope adjustments must be done when switching between the two.
It's way more accurate than I expected from this cartridge.

Would bedding a rimfire rifle even matter? Is rimfire recoil enough to move the action around in the stock? I have seen slow-motion videos of centerfire rifles and have seen movement with the heavy recoil. I just cant imagine a rimfire needing it. Am I wrong? If I am, could a noticeable amount of accuracy improvement be measured?

I have a Walther 22mag Sporter, made in 1968 with open sights. It like Winchester ammo best, I think CCI wasn't far behind?
It will shoot 1/2" 50 metre with the open sights when I'm on top of my game☺.
I just sending my German 4X W.S.M Wetzler (7/8") scope to traice scope repair, this is going on my Walther. Can't wait to see how much it improves my groups.

Bedding and pillaring is done on a lot of 22s. It helps wring out that extra fraction of accuracy

I have a CZ 455 American .22mag with an oddball scope (my other 455's all have Leupold) that is quite accurate. I am not an Olympic class shooter, so my opinion and experience may not mean much. I was sighting it in one fine day out my buddy's place. He is a real fussy target shooter, so his word is what I pay attention to. He fiddled a bit with the tension on the action screws, and was quite impressed with how it shot. That's why I left the odd scope on it. :p

The rifle only sees occasional gopher defence duty. .22 mags sure do whack gophers with authority! :)

I have a Marlin XT in 22 mag that shoots great with CCI shootem hollow points (that is the only thing I have tryed)
With a cheap scope under a 2 inch group 5 shot group at 100 meters.
