Anyone have an original Ross sniper rifle?

Saw a Ross sniper for sale out of England pass through the Quartermaster Storeshttp://www.milsurps.com/vbclassified.php a few months ago.

My knowledge level is really "low" on the Ross, so I'm not in a position personally to be able to judge authenticity. However, we did get a few emails from serious Ross collectors saying it was a "garage build".

Maybe we can get Rossguy, or some other highly knowledgeable Ross collector to put together a Knowledge Library reference article on what to look for on "all correct" Ross snipers. :)

Given the cost of these old girls, it might help some unsuspecting collector in the future from making a serious mistake in buying something that isn't honest.

That particular Ross was pimped out last year by Holts in England at auction- Being in my usual nice guy mode, I E'd them asking for details and photos.Once I saw them, I let them know that the W&S 'scope wasn't Canadian Contract at all, but one of the US 1913's meant for a Springfield, the mount was 'afro-engineered' and completely unoriginal, and that the rifle was just a vanilla MkIII. Their response was basically "if you don't like it, don't bid on it"....A gent from the UK did buy it, then contacted me several days later asking just what he had bought- I told him, and copied him on my correspondence with Holts, showing clearly that they knew it wasn't original before sale day. Much grief and lawyer involvement later, Holts sent a messenger around with a cash refund and picked up their rifle, then told both the buyer and myself that we 'were forever banned from their future auctions'.....that really hurt! Caveat emptor! It's still out there.

Thanks for the update... I wondered what happened to that old girl .... great story .... :D

I wish I could get banned from bidding on some of the auction sites. It might save me a lot of money .... ;)
