Anyone have experience 'fire forming' 308 to 6.5 creedmoor?

What's the issue? Size brass. Load round. Fire in rifle. Brass is now fire formed.

I went 22-250 lapua brass, cream of wheat, and fireformed with pistol powder....then run through regular 6.5 creedmoor dies.

I'm converting Lapua 308,Lapua 308 Palma(small rifle primer) and Norma 308. All pretty easy. I did my first 10 pieces with the cream of wheat,what a pain. Now

I size with a small base 308 die first,then full length size with 6.5 Creedmoor die ,expand necks with a .257 + .264 (Sinclair expander mandrels), trim to length (leave a bit long) , turn necks (necks are too thick), load and shoot. Then trim to final length. Fire forming brass loads, shoot almost as good as fire formed brass loads, for me.

Almost forgot. I took a "SPARE" RCBS shell holder and sanded it down about .0006" (to bump the shoulders down a bit)
Just use that shell holder for making the brass.

The Creedmore case is based upon the 308 Win. The neck is sized down. Nobody is suggesting firing a 308 in a 6.5.

No pain, start with Lapua 22-250 brass,prime, add powder, fill case to neck with cream of wheat, stuff in paper wad in neck, load in gun and fire...voila, 6.5 creedmoor brass ready to resize and load....pretty simply!

Won't that just be a 260 then? I'm pretty sure the creed isn't based off of a 308 win but I could be wrong

No it's not. .22-250 or .250 Savage blown out. You could make them out of .308 Win with some die work but I wouldn't be calling it fireforming anymore.

22-250 brass seems to be much more available than 250 Savage. Personally I wouldn't go through the trouble of using 308 and having to deal with neck thickness, unless the brass was 308 lapua Palma to get the benefit of the small primer pocket. Even then....

I can easily find good quality brass in 22-250, 250 savage not so much so.

Thanks. How much pistol powder did you use? (For example, if I was using Titegroup pistol powder)
