Anyone have experience with 222 Remington Magnum on coyotes ?

Isn't the .222rm more in between the .223 and .22-250 ballistic wise?

The 223 is basically the 222 Rem Mag with a short neck, you could use them interchangeably for the rest of your life and not notice a difference. The biggest difference would be in the rifling of the rifles so chambered, the 222 Rem Mags being generally 1-14 and the 223's being somewhat faster.

Don't think anyone is interchanging the two in their rifles. I think the rem mag beats the .223 by 100+fps if I remember right.

I did not mean to interchange the cartridges in the same rifle, if you had 2 identical rifles one a 222 Rem Mag and the other a .223 , you could shoot them the rest of you life and only by looking at the headstamp could you tell which was which, no difference at the range or in the field.

Looked at one of my reloading manuals and with the same powder and bullet the .222 rem mag beats the .223 by 150 fps plus or minus everytime.

i figured I'd dig this old thread up as I have a 222 Rem Mag in the mail on route to yours truly. its coming with a lot of brass and I've already acquired a bunch on my own. I have H335, 4198, 4895, and many more to start loading with. what are the main powders you gent are using? Also, if anybody has brass for sale PM me.

I'll look in my notes, but I seem to recall BL-C-2. Or a surplus version. - dan

Thanks for digging this one up! I recently acquired the 222 rem mag from my friend and it is currently at the shop getting a new barrel installed. I picked up 250 pcs of Nosler brass and have several powders and bullets to play with once it is completed.

I also recently got a Sako AI Vixen, varmint version in 222 Remington. It is proving slightly fussy on the loads I have fed it so far, but to be honest the conditions have been less than ideal every trip to the range for testing so I haven't given up hope yet! I have Lapua brass and lots of different bullets and so far it is leaning towards liking the 50 grain flat base bullets, I think the twist on this old girl is 1-14" so anything too heavy or long is not stabilizing well.

once i do nz again in april an then canada if all goes ahead in june, im really keen to get behind my .222 rem, Sako A1 older model , you guys are all talking velocity gains of the one or the other, but to put some perspective on it, im using a 55gr zmax at mild velocity but im finding it not near as explosive an not much difference in trajectory in the field by not running a 50gr or the zmax at full house loads.. even if the 222 rem mag isnt loaded to its absolute potential, in the field its actually potentially more capable on say goat or even sheep or smaller doe deer with less velocity an a bit heavier projectile, it will penetrate a tad better.
i recently seen a quote , and to quote " But to quote the man himself, " If they go Slower they will open Slower, If they Go Faster they Will open faster "" makes some sense, thus ws speaking more specifically woodleigh 30-30 150gr i believe, or maybe woodleigh in general, but almost all applies within context of game size
