Anyone have experience with Electroless Nickel Plating?

I was just curious how this works; Do you need to sandblast prior to application? Basically, has anyone has any experience with this.

5 of my 1911 i have sold are electroless nickel. you have to sandblast the metal prior to plating. what i like about the electroless nickel even the inside part of the frame is plated. and does not peel. it is very durable........cv
