Does anyone have a pet load for a remington 742 carbine in 30-06? Im thinking of using imr4895 and I will be shooting 165gr nosler partitions and
180gr sierra gamekings. thanks.

Take a loading manual - there are LOTS of them - I like Speer - start at the recommended beginning load and work your way up in 1 grain increments to the maximum recommended - loading 5 rounds at each increment. Shoot a five round group off a rest at a range and determine which load your particular gun "likes best" to achieve the best accuracy. For this purpose use 25 yards to minimize the effect of any wind. Generally, but not always the most accurate load will be at the higher velocities. If you have a chronograph - chrono each set of five loads to get a velocity you can use to determine the muzzle energy if you are loading hunting loads but accuracy should be your first priority. Hope this helps - as one old guy described it - "only way to know how far a frog will jump is ... make him jump". By shooting 25 rounds at a sitting you'll not only figure out which load is best BUT in so doing - you'll get more comfortable with shooting your rifle as well! Nothing beats practice ... except more practice. Have fun!

Nosler manual does not give an OAL but similar shaped 165gr in other manuals and some Nosler BT I have in .30-06 are in the 3.250" - 3.30" range.

I tried 4895 in my 30-06 and it didn't work to well. I found that 4350 was better.
