A friend of mine has 15lbs of bofors RP5 and I'm trying to find a load for my 300 Win Mag and can't find min. or max loads for 180 grain accubond.... I'm unable to find any info for this powder except for its burn rate....

If anyone can help with the min and max loads that would be great ....

THANKS

Since first post have learned that RP5 MAY be the same as Norma 205... Which is also the same as Norma MRP.... Which MAY be comparable to H450 and Reloader19......

Before I blow my gun up if anyone can confirm any of this info it would be greatly appreciated

Thx Hunter90

Alliant imports and re-labels the Bofors powders. I used to by Bofors powders from them by the 20 kg. drum.

There is a good chance that RP5 is sold as RL22. Drop an email to Ben at Alliant, and ask him what data to use for RP5. When you get the answer, drop me a PM. I think I have a drum of it somewhere.

Some time ago, I phoned a technician in Sweden on the comparison of Bofors RP-5, Norma 205 & Norma MRP.
He told me quite succinctly that they are all basically the same stuff.
I have a fair quantity of Bofors RP-5 on hand, and use it exactly as I would Norma MRP. [which I also have some of]
Velocities and charge weights are so similar that lot-to-lot variances could be greater.
Physically, the two powders appear identical, even at 20X magnification
Of course, N-205 has been discontinued for decades now, so doesn't get into the picture.
However, Reloder 22 is also very close to Norma MRP, so that data would be usable if one
started low and worked up carefully.
RP-5, Like MRP, is very "dense" powder, thus cases will accommodate more of it by weight
than other, similar burn-rate powders.
All in all, a great powder for many applications, right up into several Magnums.

"...by the 20 kg. drum..." Geezuz, they selling 44 lb kegs?

I used to buy my powders in 20 kg drums, about 1500 pounds at a a time. that was all my pick-up would hold.

Interesting how you can read right through the black marker, what was the point in covering that stuff up anyway? Something they didn't want you to see?
