I recently picked up a Winchester Model 70 Carbine in 270.
It was never hunted with and is in fantastic shape.
Does anyone have any info on these? I've been doing some looking online but have only found a few crumbs of info.
It has the prefix "G" before the serial number so I know it's post 68. 1 place I found online said they stopped making the carbine model in 1989.
It has a beautiful stock with nice checkering.
Also anyone have any idea as to the value?
Thanks.

I had a light-weight push feed carbine in 30-06 . I gave it to my nephew a while back . Accurate , but a bit of a nuclear facial . If I remember correctly , it was made in 82 . I've seen a few come up for sale over the last couple of years . The last one was , like yours , a 270 in good shape and had Leupold bases and rings , it sold for $ 550 , which I think was a pretty good price for what you're getting . I don't think 6 to 650 would be an unreasonable amount to ask . There aren't a lot of them around compared to the standard M-70 .

I bought one of those in 270 for my son's first real rifle when he was about 15. It was hard to find a decent load for but eventually I did. Recoil was nasty and best I could really expect from it were 1.5-1.75 inch groups.

Gave up on it after a season and bought him a Tikka Whitetail, way better rifle in every way and paid about the same price.

I had the same issue with the 06 , it was very picky about what it liked . Eventually, I managed to get 1 to 1 1/2 inch groups , even then , I had to be careful not to let the barrel get to hot . The main reason I let it go though , was the recoil . It was just a nasty rifle to shoot , my 300WM was far more civilized . The nephew seems to like it , it is a very light , handy rifle to carry , but not much fun to shoot .

I had one for a while, It was chambered in 308win and had iron sights. My understanding was that the short action caliber's were the first "short" length M70's. I recall it only weighing a hair over 6lbs.

The accuracy was horrendous. (2.5moa)

Mine was labeled on the barrel "Model 70 SHORT ACTION CARBINE"

Only pic I have of it:

It's a post-64 push-feed Model 70. I think that anglia2 did exceedingly well when he sold his. I certainly wouldn't give $500 for one and, honestly, I would expect at that price to have rings and bases included. Just very little demand for a rifle of that design and "performance".

I won't comment on "value", but mine sold (as pictured) for $950, 4 years ago. It was 98% as new, and the scope was a VX-2 2-7.
