Anyone have issues shooting Barnaul .308 in their m1a/m14 rifle?

I have a case of 500 of the Barnaul .308 and I was wondering if it's safe to shoot in my DA socom 18?
The Barnaul boxes say .308 and also 7.62 x 51 (which is recommended for m14s)
It's steel cased ammo, but so is the norinco ammo, which there seems to be no issues with when firing out of the m14 platform.
compared to the norinco - look the same and also the bullet weight is basically the same 145gr to 147gr.

When shooting both types today, the Barnaul had a noticeable difference in power and blast though.

Could shooting it be a safety concern, or just an occasional broken shell due to headspace issues (which happened recently with Tulaammo .308 in my rifle)?

Would appreciate some advice,

thanks guys

I have put 40 rounds of Barnaul through my 305. Was shooting for fun not groups at that time. Shot well. No hiccups at all. The only thing I noticed is that because the cases are lacquer finished they leave small amounts of red lacquer finish in the action. Other than that it was all good.

Thanks. I also just target shoot for fun.
I heard before of someone buying it to shoot in a Norinco. They also said they wouldn't shoot it in a Springfield ($2000+ gun) though.
I know my gun was for a cheap price, but I love it all the same. The dominion arms socom 18 that I have is not too common as well, so would be a pain to replace.
My main concern is safety though. If barnaul could harm me or someone shooting my gun?

I've ran about 400 rounds of Barnaul in my M305 18.5" with no issues at all.

The only thing I haven't checked is accuracy because i'm not going for groups just shooting for fun.

cool. 400 with no problems is what I like to hear! I've actually never had problems with other calibers of barnaul - 9mm and 7.62 x39 - they work well in my guns. The primers might be harder, so some guns might have light primer strikes

I have about 1k left of 2k of the 7.62x39 of Barnaul even that has been excellent. I would not hesitate to buy Barnaul again.

I forgot to mention that my KelTec RFB was not liking the .308 Barnaul all that much until about 100 round in. It seems ok now.

The major issue I have with that budget priced ammo is the copper washed mild steel jackets. That stuff is very hard on barrels, and I found the Norinco stuff to be fairly hot, which compounds the effect on your service life. I ran a few Norinco rounds down my barrel and found it to eject a lot harder, as in the steel casing went 50% further than the Federal blue box stuff. The accuracy seemed to be about 2-3 inches, so I measured and weighed a few rounds and propellant charges - the stuff is all over the board, but the accuracy is acceptable.

With this said, I'd be more likely to pick up a second gun and fire nothing but this stuff, something like a 2009 shorty that I don't baby. This also justifies me buying another gun lol

I just shoot for fun. My DA socom 18 shoots great. I found the norinco not too powerful at all. Barnaul ammo has quite a bit more blast. I plan on shooting it and hoping that the metal shells don't break. I shot the tulaammo & that seems the most powerful of all. I had the end of the shell break off. I think that was also due to running the gun too wet; lubricated (was a very violent cycle of the action)

I've used a few boxes of Barnaul in my M14. I had a handful of fail to fires. IMO, Barnaul is poor quality ammunition. I've shot hundreds of Norinco copper washed ammo through the same M14, and it functions 100% every time. Same with Remington Core-Lokt ammo.

Try the Federal blue box 150g with the Speer bullets. These are priced decent and they shoot well out of m305's I find.

My M305 ate through 500 rounds of Barnaul without any problems. The 7.62x39 are just as good too. I wouldn't shy away from it at all. Their 9mm is extremely dirty and smells like @$$ but it still shoots better than the UMC crap from Remington.
