Anyone have or seen a chain fire?

Chain fire= full auto. You don't want your hand under the mag becuase it doesn't do #### for recoil control, which is a huge aspect of controling a hand gun if it decides to burst on you. You can use that same mentality to say never fire the gun strong hand only or weak hand only. The best reason to not hold the bottom of the mag with your weak hand is that it does nothing for recoil control. In a correct 2 hand grip your weak hand should have more pressure on the gun then your stong hand so your trigger finger can more more freely. this can't happen if you barely have any grip on the gun. If you can't remove your stong hand from a 2 handed grip without droping the gun the grip is incorrect. To demonstrate the grip pressure to trigger finger movement I stated above make a first with your hand leaving your index finger out. Now squeeze your hand as hand as possible and see how quickly you can move you index finger at the same time. Now commpare that to only using enough pressure to keep the fist formed. Trigger speed may not be an issue to you but a smooth trigger press is important to any shooter and you can move the finger far smoother with less grip pressure. If the pistol goes full auto, why would it make any difference where your hand is? If it happened when you are "one handing" the gun it would be no different, and the rounds fire so quickly that the last bullet is out of the barrel by the time the barrel points vertical. Been there done that, no safety issue, and no possibility of injury as long as you are holding onto the gun.

I suppose in the case of a Ka-Boom it would be possible to be injured if your hand is beneath the butt of the pistol, but lots of other things can happen as well; like eye damage, lacerations to hands and face, and powder burns. If I see someone resting the tricep of their weak arm on their chest, and the butt of their pistol in the palm of their weak hand I won't be the one to give them a safety lecture.

Chain fire refers to a percussion revolver, NOT a cartridge gun.
One reason that the rammer was used as a grip when firing the colt revolving rifle. It got your wrist out of the way of the cylinder.

However, a friend bought a Webley Fosberry revolver and neglected to clean the dried grease out of it before taking it to the range. The disconnector stuck and it went full auto!:D

A lot of years ago i seen a guy load a cheap precushion pistol. He used no grease in front of the lead ball, said it was not needed. When he fired the first shot all cilinders went off at the same time. There was no damage to the gun.Still think of the bottom ball getting out passed the frame.

John beat me to it.
I would describe a chain fire as with a black powder cap and ball percussion revolver having all 6 rounds go off at once. Or close to the same time.
This is the reason for covering the ball with grease.

chain fire also refers to a magazine of rounds going off all at once. seen it a couple times, once with reloads once with factory. and yes if your hand was in that dumb position it would hurt a lot.
