A friend of mine put 50 rounds through and the bolt hold open stopped working. Seemed like it was too short in the first place, or the metal was soft and it seemed worn down. It just would not catch and hold. Brand new, bought that week.

i haven't seen one of these in the flesh yet..... and don't ever plan too haha
Of all the useful calibers they "could" have produced with a simple barrel caliber change and gas port size adjustment ..... they produced an abortion in x39 that probably took more tooling and fuggering about to manufacture than simply screwing on a different caliber that is already know to be compatable.
I'm The Friend Brindle is referring to above, and yeah I don't know the rifle very well. Guilty
It's apparently not last round BHO, but I can't for the life of me figure out why they would include the little button on the side whose only point seems to be holding the bolt open, when it to be fair just doesn't do that.
Anyone with more familiarity with the weapon care to comment on what that thing might be for (if not that)?

They should all atleast have the dovetail for the charger bridge to be inserted, whether the piece is actually there or not. There seems to be 2 variants of the 7.62x39 M14's.
1 has the bolt hold open fixed in place which also acts as the ejector, corresponding slot milled into the bolt.
The other has a plunger type ejector, same as the 308 version.
Some have the charger bridge, some don't, and I'm not sure if this is related to the ejection design. I can see the charger bridge interfering with ejection with the fixed ejector type. Plunger should be fine with it present.
I've being waiting since Tradex had them on for $549 and of course I snoozedI have an issue, I can't find them on clearance for $550 anywhere anymore. I missed the sales![]()
