Anyone heard from Gunnar ? Loosing patience

Being slow, just means you don't give a ####.

Be upfront with the customer and tell them the truth about how long the job will take.

I would think it would be better to turn down a job or two rather than have your name dragged through the mud on the internet.
 
well yes Gunnar may be a little slow to get things done, but he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, he always has time to share his knowledge about firearms and has done more for the sport then 95% of the people on this forum. So if you want it done fast go to walmart handgun repairs, if you want it done right go to Gunnar. When he retires, trust me you will miss him.


I'm sure Gunnar is a nice guy (just like most of us), but maybe he should cut down on the chit chat with the locals if he's having problems keeping his word.

It's hard sometimes but when I say I'm going to do something I try and follow through...if it's not possible I let my clients know as soon as possible that I'm behind and won't be finished when I said I would.

Hey when times are good and there is allot of work on the table sometimes people loose respect for the simple things like communicating with customers..... even if it's just a call back to say no I can't do the work because I'm to busy but thank you for calling......

Better to tell a customer that "it will be done when it's done" and warn them that it could take up to a year to get to it....then when it only takes 7 months you look like a champ instead of a chump.
 
I'm really surprised to hear that about Gunnar. I have dealt with him on a couple of occasions now, including trades, and never had a problem at all. He was speedy and courteous in all his dealings with me. Maybe this all happened when he was sick? I remember he had some heart problems that landed him in bed for months.... Maybe this all happened then? Anyway, as far as my experience with him goes, it's been great.

Thanks for the heads up guys, I wanted some .45acp work done and I will look else where. I have a trigger job and sights replaced on a commander about 2 years ago and at that time it was 18 month wait from a local gunsmith in Edmonton, absolutley rediculous. I have been looking at bits of pieces, anyone recommend anyone else that will actually answer emails and are at least in the ball park for time. I want the same for a full size .45, trigger job and adjustable sights.
 
Well my ranger arrived on Tuesday... No bill, work order no idea what has been done.. I'll be home in 2 weeks and will figure out what's been done.. Lord what a mess...
 
With most gunsmiths you generally have two options: Good or fast.

Good AND fast isn't going to happen.

When a gunsmith gives me a finish date I automatically double the estimated time and add 6 weeks. This forumla is usually closer than the orginal estimate.

And if it's my gunsmith I'd rather have him at the bench than answering a bunch of whiny e-mails from other customers. :)

Agreed. Last year I approached both Gunnar and Barry about some custom work on a Sig... I had a reply and quote from Barry in 48hrs, Gunnar replied a week later but even that was just to blow me off. It took another week to get the slightest idea of a rough price out of him. Sent it off to Barry, who quoted turn around of 1 month. Four months later I had the gun back in my hand.

In Canada, gunsmithing is an ordeal. Expect ridiculous timeframes. However, there is NO excuse for bad customer service and being unable to reach them. That is just horrible business skills.
 
Well theres another option for Gunnar.... He can read the posts here #####ing and complaining and he can just say to heck with it and get out of gunsmithing completely as so many people are impatient and ungrateful.

That would be just perfect, we loose a good gunsmith and have even fewer options for getting work done...


Yes it would be nice if we could reach him whenever we wanted to call him, or that we get a reply to our emailed messages 5 minutes after we send it but I dont think thats going to happen, hell it doesnt even happen at big stores that we hear #####ing about all the time, Lebarons, WSS, etc.

Just cut Gunnar some slack, if your having a bad experience with him I am sorry to hear about it but keep it between the two of you, If I wanted to hear #####ing and moaning I would have gotten a wife and had 4 kids.

So you support this type of "customer service" ??? It doesn't matter how good your work is, being dis-honest and ignoring customers is BS. The quality of work shouldn't justify this behavior!!!

No one's complaining about 5 minute email responses....:rolleyes:

I take pride in my work as a carpenter and part of that pride comes from satisfied customers.

I also like to think that my word is good in the sense that if I say I will do something, I follow up with results, or at least a good explanation as to why I fell short.....

I couldn't sleep well knowing that a bunch of people are expecting something from me based on what I told them and I am unable to get the work done.....avoiding them or their phonecalls wouldn't help either......I don't have call display.

You can't please all the people all the time goes without saying but somehow I think that's not the case here...

If Gunnar want's to retire over this thread well then I guess that's probably the right thing to do as no one should put that kind of stress on themselves......somehow I don't think he's quite ready to pack it in at this point....maybe he will cut back on the smithing and stick more to selling and re-selling guns.

His name is Gunnar and I wouldn't go so far as to call him a crapsmith....he just seems to be having some growing pains as he transitions to online re-sale.

As far as bringing up his wife and dog well that just un called for.

No, He does alot of crap work and it was him that brought up the crap about his wife in the first place not me accusing me of threatening her becasue he wasnt man enough to admit his lies and mistakes.

Theres no growing pains he just lies to your face over and over and when he runs out of excuses he will ignore you for months.

I've seen it over and over again in your posts and frankly it's a little disturbing. I've dealt with him a few times, both with work and just trades and purchases, and never had an issue.

PS, I have heard the same thing about every gunsmith I've ever had contact with and several I've had nothing to do with (including big name American 'smiths), so basically I think peoples expectations are out of line with reality sometimes

Take your blinders off, I see these wheres Gunner posts over and over again aswell. So everyone that has issues with him is a lier right? Becasue you have had good experiences all of us that have been screwed over by him are all full of ####, right?

My experience with him was a total fiasco like it or not, that is the truth. I have dealt with lots of people and I do what I say and am very patient and honest.

See thats all it takes to keep people happy, 42 seconds and he has another month and a happy customer that was just informed of the delay.

But I guess I`m just a ####ing ####### for responding to a person that I am doing work for.
