Anyone here convert an bubbed Enfield to 7.62x39?

I took a NIW 1954 Long Branch and sporterised it. I also used plastic wood to build a custom molded cheekpiece and a forward pistol grip. I went to the hardware store and bought some broom clips and screwed them into the stock to hold a flashlight. I am considering useing shoe polish or BBQ paint to make the stock black.

"Russian Match" .303BR

I was going to do this, still may. Right now I just pull the bullets on 7.62x39 and reuse the bullet and powder in a .303BR case. Works great, with no gunsmithing.

Hmmm? Any one else thinking that 7.62x54 might be an equally worthy donor cartridge for our .303BR Lee Enfields? More powder, but it could be cut back a few (or more) grains.

Pluses - plenty more surplus 7.62x54 Russian around than surplus .303BR
- bullets are appropriate diameter (after checking of course)
- no gunsmithing reqd for our favourite old No.4's

Minuses - possibility of wrong diameter bullets
- need to reweigh charges ie not pull-dump-and-seat reloading

I do that as well. If I want heavier bullets. I have two cases of Polish and Hungarian waiting to be vivisected. Best to reduce the charge and work up to velocity as the X54 seems to hold more powder.

There was a thread in Guns Review a few years back, conversions were done for this an 5.56, a gunsmith here still carries bolt heads for the 5.56 conversion kit. The 7.62 x 39 was done as .303 was very scarce. An old No4 was selected. The carrel was removed and set back enough to allow the rechambering. There was a little work needed on the bottom of the reciever to allow the AK mag welded into a No4 mag to fit and feed reliably but it worked. If I could find the mag I'd scan inthe article. The mag went out of print with pistols. At the time these old No4s were being used as long range pistols by cutting them down and fitting a pistol grip. Great fun.
