I will probably have a business trip to Namibia this year.

I would like to hunt oryx or something similar.

Does anyone have a guide outfit they can recommend? It would be just me for 3 or 4 days.

How far in advance will I need to book the hunt?

I plan to just bring one rifle, my BRNO 602 carbine in .375 H&H. I might replace the 1.5x5 on it with something like a 3x9.

I hunted in 2010 with Malan Lambrechts who is the owner and PH for Arub Safaris(ww w.arubsafaris.com). His 20,000 acre property is located in the Khomas Hochlands about an hour and a quarter from Windhoek. Not uncommon to see over 100+ Gemsbok per day in various sized groups. Lots of very promising Kudu as well. Great facilities and his wife Barista makes sure you are well fed. Highly recommended!! PM me if you have more questions.

Three or four days might be a bit short, a week is a typical starter hunt and usually you'll need to book a good bit in advance to get a slot. Amphibious knows some guys in Namibia who run a ranch, hopefully he'll chime in. Check out africahunting.com, there'll be listings for sale priced / late notice / dropped hunts etc, lots of Namibia stuff. If you post in 'hunts wanted' with what you're after, species, price, timeline, duration etc an operation will likely get in touch with you that can accommodate.

Namibia

Geologist, contact my buddy Phil Minnaar @ wildlifeservices@bwana-game.com. He knows everyone in Namibia and if it can be done he'll make it happen. Tell him Douglas MacKrell gave you his name, we hunted lion together last year in Zambia.

I had a couple of days to kill at the end of my African hunt, and I stayed at a bed'n'breakfast sort of arrangement called the Airport Guest Farm, just outside of Windhoek. I didn't actually hunt the property, which I believe was on the order of 100,000 acres, but I spent a couple of days hiking around, just doing a bit of birding, photography and wildlife viewing. Good numbers of hartebeest, oryx, springbok and warthog, saw a few kudu as well...there were also numerous other species on their game list. Not really an honest-to-God safari destination, but for a casual hunt of just a couple of days it might be perfect. The owner's son is a licenced PH, and he was very personable and seemed quite capable. I don't think they would require a huge amount of lead time to get something set up. Sorry, I don't have the link, but they were easy to find on the web...I think the actual name was "Airport Hunting and Guest Farm". They picked me up and returned me to the airport (about a 30-minute drive), the room was spotless and comfortable, and the meals (served by and eaten with the family) were excellent.

Good luck on your trip. If you've never been to Africa, you are going to LOVE IT!!! If you have been there before...you already know that you are going to love it!

African twilight safaris ,family owned ,big spread and low fenced.
We had a real nice time there and eventhough we hunted in the early part of the season we still saw lots of critters.
Like the gemsbok in my avatar.
