Hi Guys,

Looking at WMU 17 for moose hunting this year, anyone ever hunt there?

The moose fact sheet from the MNR doesn't give great grades on populations in this WMU, but I don't really trust anything the MNR says.

Figured I'd ask the boots in the bush.

Any recommendations, experiences etc?

Cheers,
Fordy

Not sure about 17 but hunted south of there and road access would be the biggest problem unless you plan on gettung deep with a canoe or something.

Been there, done that. If you are driving real far to get there you will be disappointed. Nice place to camp, Moose hunt, not so much

For the chance of even seeing a moose 15A would be much better , at least there are lots of access roads but the moose population is way down everywhere . Your chance of hitting 6/49 are about the same as hunting calves as by the fall the bears have killed most of them .

Did fly in two years in a row...
First year we see lots of moose, wolves, grouse, geese and ducks, second year nothing at all.
There is road access but not allowed to use those roads other than walking, not even a bycicle.
Fly in is good if it is a good year. Lake you will hunt will be it. There is no cruising around looking for moose or good hunting areas. Pretty much limited to shoreline and spots with good view around.
If there is few days of rain (we had 11 and 1/2 of 13 days hunted ) there will be plenty of card games to learn
