Nice one! What area of BC was this?
I have hunted Russian wild boar 4 times with friends on game farms. The first was in the Alta badlands and the rest was up in the Sundre area on game farms.
They can be quite tough to kill if ideal shot placement is not done on the first shot. The first was taken with a .303 sporter and required 4 shots. The next year I overcompensated with a .375 H&H mag (only 1 shot required). The following years I took a 30/06 and shot boars with only 1 shot.
Any 30/06/308 in that class should work well for an animal that will range in the 200 to 400 lb catagory.
They are quite delicious and one of the best wild game meats - recommend that the hams be double hickory smoked.
How can you know if you are or are not 110% correct?these hogs are not russain boar(mite be a few mixed in and mix breed) but pigs that have been escaping/released for a few hundred years wild hogs can breed abot 5 times a year having quite a few in a litter it does not take much for them to start a herd
I wish we received $50.00 per set of ears in this province ... 205x$50=10,250.00 . That would have been a nice reward for all the hours spent chasing these things!! Oh well, it helps to keep in shape.

RE: frequency of birthing - I am 100% sure ( Not 110%!) the NO pig species can breed 5x per year. A domestic or wild pigs gestation period is 3 months, three weeks and three days. Leave some time for lactation and a normal estrus cycle and that would put the breeding interval at twice per year, tops. Or maybe I didn't learn anything during all those years in university and working in the pig industry.
longwalker : good memory.
in the wild there is mostly only one birth period a year but today as they re well fed in Europe they re getting two gestations period in a year and so the population is exploding ...
we hunted them a lot in Europe and loved but driven was the only method and i didnt it like that much.
yeah so do the ones down south and in australia
this is a wild boar there a few different types but they all have a little hump of some sort wild hogs/pigs tend to look more like potbelly pigs and or mix breed between the two![]()
Yes...........that what the Auzzie hogs look like from the side......from the front is a hold different story.........I used a Winy 1886 in 45-90 and 12ga slug to hunt them when I was down there.
How can you know if you are or are not 110% correct?
You cannot possibly say your word is final.
Frequency of birthing is not the issue here.
Now that's even more questionable. I highly suspect that few Americans know what exact DNA matched evasive species thrives in the woods of Alberta? Or even care?thats just word of mouth from friends down south
