anyone hunt with dangerous game solids for big NA game?

why would anyone want to hunt with a solid on NA game? soft skin game with a solid...... nope

because of the damage caused by the cavitation. keep in mind these are heavy big bore bullets.

and chuck, FMJ means full metal jacket. key word is jacket. a mono bullet is not jacketed. law loves to wrangle over definitions, this would be an example of where legislation is too meagre on definition. kinda like how the 10 round pistol mag rules lets many semi auto rifles shoot 10 rounds when the law says they're limited to magazines pinned to 5 rounds.

doesn't really matter...but it is interesting how some use these to finish game if they're not done when they get there. could this be breaking the law?

Suggestion: Cast bullet with a load of Trailboss= great "finishing" round with low noise and less damage than a conventional jacketed hunting round.

Just to muddy the waters even further, the RWS H-Mantle and the old-style Winchester Silvertip could both be considered full metal jacket, but both are expanding. I you want to take the narrow interpretation of the BC law, then both of these bullets should be illegal for hunting purposes. The wording is dated because of the advance of technology, but I believe the intent is to keep non-expanding bullets out of the hunting fields.

I would agree with this entirely...it's the spirit of the law, but legalese and definitions are getting in the way now. LoL! ;)

Full Metal Jacketed NON-expanding.

As far as I know pretty much all solid bullets (not FMJ) are designed for CXP4 class game and only available in African caliber (ie. 375 and up) and what's wrong with using a 375 or great bullet diameter when everybody is hoping their 270 or 30 cal bullet will expand and create a perfect mushroom without fragmenting?

They should still be good because they're expanding. Similarly, the TSX solid is not jacketed, but it is non-expanding.

Oh, the schmozzley goodness of the law.

The law is really about keeping military style FMJ ammo from being used for hunting. Avoid that sort of ammunition and bullets and you will probably be just fine.

There are solids in many non african calibers. I do admit my 458 puts a big hole in and out

This is an excellent article that I have posted in the past, but it will help answer your question:
