I have a Walther LG53 (with the Tyrolean stock) that's shooting in the low 400s. Probably just needs new seals installed, is anyone in Canada working on these? I don't want to deal with the hassle shipping it to the states.

Okay, I've dealt with D&L before... they pretty much just sell modern airguns. No repairs.

But they might be able to help you find a repair shop. I only got a old Benjamin from the 50's and I do my own repairs. Springers are pretty easy to work on, normally only 2 seals. a breach and a piston seal.

Spring could be weak. I know I bought a new out of the box Crosman Phantom and it was only shooting 380-400 and rated for 495. A new spring bumped it to 750.

Check beeman for the parts. If the performance fell off rapidly it probably isn't the spring. If you had the seals you could do it yourself or pass it on to someone who could handle the mechanics but hasn't got a way to get the parts.

Also check out the UK they have everything you could wnat, generally.

Pyramid air for parts also.

Contact CGN member leonardj. He is an excellent airgunsmith. He may be retired, but he'll know who to contact if he doesn't repair airguns any longer.

seals for the lg53 are not hard to find, mainly synthetic conversions. google will help. iirc there is parts in the uk and royal mail costs are sometimes better and faster than canada post. although vintage those walther springers are notoriously complex specifically the trigger assemblies.

the seals are leather i believe could try to rejuvinate them a bit with some silicone oil down the compression tube. what i find has helped in the past is using silicone oil and letting it sit on its butt for a couple of days before shooting it, some excess comes out, if you see chunks (little flakes) in the barrel you know there has been some disintegration of the seal. is the breech seal still ok?

i am quite experienced with repairing vintage springers, but not confident enough to tear those old walthers down. i own a lg53zd and it hits at the mid 400-500. they were supposed to do around 600 when new

I agree! Leonard J (for Joe) is a stand-up guy, who loves airguns and working on them. He did excellent work on my FWB 300S repair and still advises me on AG matters.

webleyguy@gmail.com is his email, I hope he replies as he may be retired from smithing.

Glen, and Jet - thank you for the kind words - much appreciated.
Yes, I am still doing repairs on the vintage airguns, but on a more limited basis than before. Definitely not retired.

Fonestar - drop me an e-mail at the addy given above.

the seals are leather i believe ... the lg53 through lg55 had synthetic piston seals, the lg51 and lg52 had leather.
i own a lg53zd and it hits at the mid 400-500. They were supposed to do around 600 when new. According to documentation that I have here, directly from walther, the factory specification on the lg5x series of rifles was 150 MPS, or ~ 492 FPS.
