If anyone in the Camrose, Alberta area (or who is willing to make the trip) is interested IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association) type action pistol shooting but have no experience there is a going to be a skills and practice day January 7th. It will be $20 for Camrose Sport Shooting Association members and $30 for non members.

If you compete in action shooting or have your Black Badge this isn't really geared towards you but if you have never tried action pistol come on out! We are going to focus on safety, holster use, IDPA principles, and how to practice and be competitive.

Shoot me a message if you would like more information or would like to sign up. You really don't need much in th way of experience or equipment. You can borrow whatever you dont have.

Matches will be starting in the new year.

Mods I did not post this in the Action Shooting forum as I am hoping people who don't compete would see it.

Thanks Import. Out first match will be January 22nd and I would like to get new people into it.

If anyone has friends who would like to try come try IDPA tell them about it. It's not that far from Edmonton!

This sounds cool!

It will be at the Camrose indoor range January 7th for a new shooter day and the first indoor match should be January 22nd. I can message you more info.

If you need gear I have everything from guns and holsters to ear protection and ammo you can borrow.

Happypillz it will begin at 10:00 bUT we have to make sure everyone has their equip mention all sorted out. I will send you a pm.

We used to have a couple guys shoot with .22's. Most the guys shoot 9mm. Some .40's.
I started out with a 1911 .45, and now I have a 9mm rig as well.

You need at least three mags two mag pouches, belt height holster. Good belt. Ammo. You also need a cover garment. Jacket with big pockets is nice.

Guys the intro course is all booked up. If there is enough interest perhaps another one could be held later.

Is there divisions? If it's indoor is it rimfire only?

If I'm not away working I'll definitely come!

There are firearms classes similar to divisions. You should have at least a 9mm. If someone is uncomfortable with center fire or certain stage requirements exceptions can usually be made.

For gear you need (as Happypillz said):

-a pistol (9mm is all you need)
-at least three (preferably four) magazines
-a decent holster (preferably an open top friction retention type)
-mag pouch
-a belt (not an IPSC belt just a decent stiff leather belt)
-concealment garment (any open front jacket or hoodie that won't interference with your holster)
-eye and ear protection (preferably electronic. I double up)
-usually 100 to 200 rounds per match

If you are short gear and let someone know we can usually help you out.

There is no prerequisite training but you should be familiar with your gear and holster use and be proficient at safe firearms handling.

The idea behind the intro course was to teach new shooters safe holster use, range commands, reloading and stoppage clearing drills, IDPA rules, and ways to train at home and at the range.

There will be a match coming up in a few weeks (more of a fun shoot) and it will be posted.

Thanks!

Thank you to everyone who came out. I think it was a successful day. I hope everyone had fun and learned a little bit.

The next match at Camrose will be an indoor skills and drills type shoot January 22nd. We are limited a bit by the indoor range but it should be a lot of fun. It will again be $20 for Camrose Shooting Sports Association members and $30 for non members.

Spots are limited and prepayment will be required. Message or email me at roddymaze@hotmail.com if you are interested or have any questions. There is a thread about this in the Action Shooting sub forum here:

Thanks!
