Seeing as hunting season is almost here, would anyone have an interest in my doing a thread on how to prepare and tan animal skins?
Alternatively, would anyone like to show how they do theirs? There are so many ways and the such that it'd be a great way to show people how to use what'd otherwise be waste, and to learn from people who know more!
So far I'm pretty new at things, but I can do buckskins, so that'd be at least one tutorial. I somehow successfully did an elk hide with hair on just recently, so that could be another, though someone with more knowledge might do a better job at that. If you would be interested in showing how you do things, chirp up!
P.S. I put option #2 because I know taxidermists have a hard enough time as it is, and I honestly do feel that if I had the money, it'd be worth it to go to them, as they're professionals.
Who was it who clicked that they could do a tutorial as well? I forgot to makes voters visible.
Also - anyone with hides on the lower island who want to learn or donate them to the cause, let me know. I'm not that good a hunter to guarantee I'll have a hide by the end of season

For anyone interested in doing their own skins this fall, this site is a great place to do reading:

They're a small close nit community, like here. Pretty much everything you will want to know is available through the search function. If you're planning to give tanning a whirl, it's a really good idea to get lots of reading done before you get your deer, as it didn't make much sense (to me at least) the first time.
Also, a good book for beginning buckskinners is "Deerskins to Buckskins". That's basically what I'll be following on the first tutorial, and it's written so that someone with zero knowledge of hide working will come out with beautiful skins at the end.
