the on the right is likely the woodleigh hydrostatically stabilised series of bullets. not sure what the one of the left is, but likely a solid copper bullet as well.

The solid looks a bit like a Barnes.

The one on the right appears to be a Safari Solid from Cutting Edge Bullets.

The owner of the Rifle wasn't too sure but knew they went through buffalo no problems as he has shot 2 in 1 shot, 4 times now... By accident/chance whatever you call it.

Scenerio, mob of buffalo, Shoots 1, walks over, 2 dead. without really knowing or trying to line them up. That's penetration

I had a quick look in the catalogue, Woodleigh list a 225 gr. HS solid that should work in your Whelen. Next time you're out after buff, soft in the chamber, backed up with solids in the magazine.
