anyone know how to judge the size of a bear?

if it comes up the tree after you it is small, if it shakes you out of the tree it is big, if it pulls the tree out of the ground it is real big.

If you have to ask, it's a small-med bear. If you go "Holy crap, that's an oil drum with a face", take the safety off.

Sometimes you can just tell, other times it can take a lot of judging.

Personally, I just look at the ears. As others have already stated, the relationship of the ears to the head is what you have to evaluate. I like to describe it this way:

If it looks like Mickey Mouse, let it grow. If it looks like a 10 pin bowling ball with two walnuts glued to it.....
