What will I be looking at in the range difference of these calibers though? won't I be losing a ton of punch?
I dont want to lose 45 yards moving down to 9mm tho
the dealer in my town has a nice looking 9mm bushmaster
The practical limitation to either is about 100M...I've shot out to 200M but accuracy suffers and ballistic trajectory is like an artillery shell.
These carbines are intended primarily for CQB and really shine in that role, plus being much less expensive to feed.
In terms of "punch" how much is required to put a hole in a paper target or ballon? 9mm works just fine in that role. They'll also ring the gong okay and should work fine for IPSC poppers at CQB ranges.
I doubt if either a .45ACP or 9mm will have sufficient energy left at 200M to reliabily drop a heavy popper, but then again, I've never tried...so I could be completely out to lunch!
At the end of the day, the only guy you have to please is yourself, so if an Oly does it for you, then by all means have at it! I think most of the guys in this thread were genuinely attempting to offer you sound advice. For the same or near the same cash, you can purchase a higher quality rifle, with better fit/finish and which will offer better re-sale value.
I'm not currently aware of any retailer/distributor bringing in Oly stuff. IIRC, Questar brought some in several years ago, but nothing recently. You might try placing a WTB ad in the EE or attempt to import one yourself from the US. Questar offers the same service, but at a premium price these days thanks to the US State Dept. export restrictions. Whatever you decide, good luck!...and remember, a day at the range with a crappy AR is better than any other day you're not at the range!
