My buddys Uncle passed and he got a shotgun left to him. It is;

Shotgun 16 GA 2 3/4
Ithica Gun co inc, ithica ny
Patent no 1849982 - Model 37
Serial 135664

Here are some pics, I would say it is in poor to medium condition looks wise, functionally ok.

1947 manufacture. By the looks of things I would say 300 would be ballpark for someone with a special interest in these Ithacas. And that's if the bore is in good condition & it's not missing any parts and it's working 100% with no corrosion issues. Unfortuneately those polychokes just seem really to add no considerable value to this gun. No offence intended and this old scattergun has probably killed a few pallet loads of really tasty flying things in it's past in the hands of your friend's uncle. There is some belief that this gauge is the perfect choice for upland critters in the Ithaca shotgun. And knowing that the original design via Remington (Model 17) was blueprinted for 20 gauge, that's probably close to the truth. Thanks for sharing!

just my two cents

Edit: I'm really curious to see what others say. I sincerely hope I have not devalued this fine old shotgun.
And a big ooops because this should be in the hunting & sporting shotgun sub-forum!

Thanks, my buddy shot this gun when he was a kid, he does not have a PAL or that much interest in keeping it. I don't want it. He also has an old single shot .22. Rather than take advantage of him :pirate: I am going to try and convince him to keep them. They belonged to his Uncle and once they are gone they are gone. Some things should be passed along.

No offense but I think 300 would be a little high. I have picked up ithaca 37's in similar condition for under 150. My last 16 2 16gauges I picked up both were featherlights. One was $60 and one was $120. The availability of 16gauge kinda brought the prices down on them. Still fine guns but in that condition I think it would be hard to get over 160. That is just my opinion and I could be wrong. All depends on the buyer.

Okay, more opinions is fine. Myself I have a fondness for Ithacas. But that's my weakness and that is pretty obvious as I own a copy of Walter Snyder's Ithaca book. I think Beegwally is on the right path in trying to get his friend to keep it within the family though.

Cheers!
