Anyone know what peep sight this is for?

Seems to be welded on to the receiver?
If I can't find the peep sight that goes with it I may remove it altogether.

Looks to be sweat soldered on.
Don't know the make - no elevation adjustment - loosen, slide, tighten. Redfield made ones that worked that way, but that's only a guess.

Looking through the mounting holes, I'm pretty sure that I can see solder. Go in with a little pick and see if it scratches. If it is solder, just heat it up with a propane torch, after you have stripped the action.
But unless there is a reason to remove it, I'd leave it in place and make a windage arm so that it would be usable as a backup. Once the base is off, you're going to have solder coated bare steel.

The rifle looks like a P17/P19. It may be a base for a removable peep sight.

It's a base for a peep yes but which type of peep? If I can figure out which type I can look for one and use the base.
If I can't figure out what peep goes in there I'm thinking of just removing it and replacing it with another peep sight/base

I'd leave it in place and make a windage arm so that it would be usable as a backup. Once the base is off, you're going to have solder coated bare steel.
Is it hard to remove the solder ?

On my one and only attempt to drill and tap a Pattern 1917 receiver rear bridge, I went through numerous bits and several taps - very, very hard/tough shells both outside surface and inside surface. I ended up spot annealing to get the holes through. Probably that is why the base was soldered in place instead of mounted with screws. Williams and Redfield made side mount receiver sights - you are missing an "L" shaped piece that extends across the top of the receiver with the windage adjustment, and vertical adjustment is via clamping screw in that base you have.

To give you an idea of what we're thinking, here are some pictures of a Williams apertures sight that was taken off a BSA conversion of a Pattern 1917 rifle. Not exactly the base that you have but must be similar idea. Apologies - no idea how images got rotated 90 degrees - I am happy as all getout to simply get pictures showing up!!!

Thanks Potashminer and DaveF

I'll probably end up buying Dave's redfield sight.
The vertical slot in my base is 0.5" wide I think it's probably close enough to fit.

I really want this to be a nice bush rifle someday and like the idea of using a peep instead of scope.

Hi guys
DaveF helped me out, with a Redfield sight that fits like a glove.
Thanks again Dave!

I'll post some photo's when the rifle is 'Done'.
Who knows when that will be though!
