single shot bolt action.has marking of "xsp",no other markings..22 caliber.barrel end is fluted.

I can't say 100% but I think you have a rare piece. XSP (EXPERIMENTAL SEALING PISTOL) A single shot bolt action pistol manf. by Winchester Cooey which looked just like a cut down rifle. 8" crowned barrel with a lanyard in the butt. Quantities made unknown. Its understood this experiment had Canadian Dept. of Fisheries support.Can you take the bolt out and take a pic?-----thanks Cowboy

Just a quick update with more info.The owner now says it is not marked XSP,it is marked Spitfire.Does this joggle anyones memory?Thanks,Glen

Yes, maybe. Spitfire was a British company that made carbines in .45ACP, 9mm.

Also there was the 5.7mm Spitfire (.30 Carbine necked down) wildcat, for the the Remington x100 bolt action pistol. Spitfire might be the data stamp, not the make of rifle?
