Anyone know where to buy 10 to 20 .223 bullet heads and casing for making snap caps?

I see someone selling these realistic snap caps made with no powder filled in bullet and casing on eBay. Originally I was lazy and wanna buy it on there but it ships from US so to avoid causing problem with someone mistaken these are the real thing I thought may be I can make some from buying a few new casing (or used casing from my next trip to the range and just take out the used primer) and filled in with glue gun filling. All I am missing are the bullets and may be the casing. I don't do reload so I don't have some ready. Anyone sell such small quantity (don't need 100's)? I don't need a lot, just enough to make 10 to 20 rounds.

I don't feel comfortable taking out the bullet from new ammo... so I would try to avoid doing that for now. If there is no active primer and powder at least I know nothing will ever go boom. The real advantage here is that the snap caps will be as close to real thing as possible compare to the AZoom stuff. Plus I found the Azoom stuff already wearing out after just a dozen drills.

No worries. Of course these will have special perm marking on them to avoid any confusion. And I will store them separately from real ammo. I am already storing my firearms and my ammo on 2 complete separate floors since day 1 so there is never any confusion.

May I offer an alternative plan?

Step 1 - take your rifle tot he range. Fire a box of cartridges. Enjoy warm feeling and sense of accomplishment.

Step 2 - collect your brass. There's the cases acquired.

Step 3 - head over to the backstop and see if any of your FMJ bullets have survived the trip reasonably intact. Collect as many as you reckon you need plus a dozen just for laughs.

Step 4 - find a buddy with a press and dies. Punch out primers, resize cases. Fill primer pocket with bathtub silicone or hot glue or white vinyl eraser cut to size. Allow time to dry/harden. Fill cases with inert something. Sand might work well, and will lend a satisfying heft. Fill cases to the point where they'll support the bullet in the neck. Seat bullet, crimping like a monster-armed bastard.

There's your dummies, ready to rock. Make lots as they'll wear if you have them in and out of the gun a lot.

If you like, PM me for my address. I'll be your buddy with a press. Send me the cases and the salvaged bullets and I'll throw 'em together for you. :)

Cheers,

Dan
