I'm looking to find .303 British bullets for reloading in Calgary. Does anyone know a place that sells them? I've tried almost everywhere and they either don't carry them or they're sold out every time I go.

Shooting Edge
Calgary Shooting Centre
Wholesale Sports
Canadian Tire (which doesn't sell reloading components apparently! Who knew!)

About the only place I haven't tried yet is Bass Pro. But if I head up there in my Ram 1500, I may as well but commercially made rounds or buy in bulk quantities.

Cheers,

If you have brass and dies just pull down 7.62x39 for plinking ammo...

Budget shooter supply had components last time I looked if you strike out local.

I've heard that before but would rather not put them down the barrel of my 105 year old Enfield

They are the same diameter bullet. That being said, Budget Shooter Supply sells some nice polymer tipped bullets marketed for .303. Also some good quality soft points. Both are flat based, perfect for .303.

Actually a 7.62x39 is .310 dis and I doubt that a light weight undersize bullet will give much accuracy in the 303. If you want a hunting bullet lots of guys have had good luck with 30 cal 180 gr partitions. The base expands under pressure to fill the bore. I have not tried this myself.

Yep, 7.62 x 39 uses .311" bullets. However, not all Lee-Enfields, 105 years old or 75 years old, have a .311" barrel. They can measure between .311" and .315" and still be considered ok. You need to slug the barrel if you haven't already.
Nobody makes anything but a .311" or .312" diameter bullet though. Hornady has suspended making any bullet for the .303 anyway. They use .312" and .3105". Speer and Sierra use .311". No Noslers or Winchester at all.
Had a look at Bass Pro's web site. No .311" bullets at all listed. Call 'em though.
Budget is listing Hornady 150 grain .311" SST's at $44 per 100. They might be your best option if .311" bullets are right for your rifle. Might be you only option. Mind you, shipping bullets will be expensive

2 reasons I don't want to go the 7.62 route. 1) the rifle has a lot of sentimental value and I'm not all that comfortable doing so. 2) I'm going to start reloading for the first time and don't want to mess it up by using rounds other than what it was originally designed to shoot.

That said, I will have a look at the idea down the road when I've become a little more comfortable with reloading.

No messing up can be done... Just dump the 7.62x39 powder charge straight into the primed .303 case and seat the bullet... Makes a nice low end plinking load in an enfield and a lot easier on the old girl than a 174gr or 180gr RN or FMJ...

....if your really stuck for some projectiles I could probably send you some but my supply is running low as well.

I have heard of people pulling bullets from surplus 7.62 x 54R, pouring the powder (less about 2 grains, as I recall), into a primed .303 Br case, and then seating the bullet.
I have done some casual comparisons of 7.62 x 54R versus .303 Br, and it seems that 2 grains less would be about right.
ANY COMMENTS OR EXPERIENCE??
