20moa, 0moa? Is that 20 minutes of angle adjustment side to side or height adjustment or what? I don't understand moa as it pertains to bases. Thanks for enlightening me
Kim
Its a fixed elevation adjustment. High end scopes usually 80-120moa of adjustment built in. Low end scopes may only have 50. Adding a 20moa base to your 50moa scope give you more elevation adjustment. Course that's not the only reason, but its a common one.
Typically, 20moa bases are used on F-class, or precision rifles for long range shooting, 800-1,000 yards. Which is a tad optomistic for a .22rf.
I think the idea of the 20MOA on a 22lr is to use it for shooting 150yards or so with a 50yard zero. The drop on the 22lr is a great deal more at those ranges than your typical .308 and thus the reason for the moa base.
I need this for my 22 Mauser. Recently a Lyman 32X scope ran out of 100 yard elevation clicks up. I could only get it to, about 5-6 inches below 100 yard bullseye.
I may have to revert to the Weaver T-10 Microtrac scope.
A 22LR at 300 yards approximates a 308 at 1000 yards. Your windage and elevation adjustments are pretty close to the same. So, it makes perfect sense that you would also use a 20 MOA base for this as well. Its scaled down practice for long range shooting and a very good method at that.
US Optics makes a large variety of 20MOA bases for various rimfire rifles. Alberta Tactical Rifle carries their stuff, so that may be another source.
Exactly, why spend $5 or more per shot during practice when you can simulate the same situation for pennies per shot. It's not for everyone, and the 20moa bases are definitely not for the average 22LR shooter...certainly not for hunting with.
Thanks for the lead on Alberta Tactical. I'm looking into it.
