The reason I use a factory crimp is that most bullets I use for reloading do not have a crimp grove, so using your seating die to crimp is out. Crimping creates a uniform start pressure. Have ever been at the range, you just put two side by side, then the third is a flyer, opens your group up to two inches, was that you or was the neck tension on that round a little different then the first two. Also some times in the field ammo gets handled roughly, take a round that has not been crimped, chamber it in and out of your rifle a few times, check the bullet to see if it has been pushed into the case ( most experienced reloader's use some kind of precise measuring device to see if the c.o.l. has changed) or has bullet become a bit loose.The majority of factory ammo is crimped?
