These were once fired steel wolf cases i had laying around, I wanted to make some "Bad Ass" looking rounds so i reloaded them, Dont know if they are safe to fire or not. They sized and deprimed really nice, and overall made a good looking round. Anyone else reloaded steel casings before?

Yup. If they'll size, you're in play.

Don't go trying it with the milsurp lacquered steel 7.62x39 though - most of what I've seen is Berdan and will wreck the hell out of your decapper... Wolf, however, should be Boxer since it's non-corrosive - anyone have experience with the Wolf stuff and can speak to this? I've never shot it, since it's not approved up here and is therefore scarce as hen's teeth. Maybe some of our USA brethren?

Some Russian small arms ammo has wierd sized primers. Perfectly normal sized for them, but large and odd shaped for Westerners. Be careful and be experimental before going too far into this project.

Dang it ,you could have told me this a few week's ago and saved my die

FYI Boxer or Berdan plays no role in whether the primer is corrosive.

This is true, but I suppose what I should have said is that the majority of non-corrosive ammo I've seen is Boxer primed. So, by extension, I assumed that Wolf was Boxer.

I just looked it up - Wolf "Gold" is Boxer across the board, but Wolf "Military Classic" is all Berdan and the only "PolyFormance" loads that aren't Berdan are .223 55gn and 62gn.

Good to know.

The Boxer primers they sell are non-corrosive but I can't find definite specs on the primers in the Berdan loaded ammo? I would assume that basically anything after '80 should be non-corrosive though, yes?

All commercially loaded ammo now is NC. Wolf Gold is made by Prvi Partizan, mil classic is usually Uly, and their black box stuff is Tula.

Generally thei black box stuff is Berdan if Russian and Boxer if US design.

I have a supply of 7.62 x 51 NATo steel caes, berdan primed. They are about 5 thou long in the headspace. perfect for loading my Norc M14s..

I throw the fired cases away.

It loads like any other brass, except when i champfer the case mouths, i find it hard on my tool.

I also load my target loads in these cases. The Berdan primers give very good SD values.
