Anyone loading 12.7x44R?

One of my Swedish rollers also has a long chamber- the sporterized military one will take a longer cartridge than my sporting rifle. You can locate the bullet against the rifleing by expanding a case mouth so a bullet will just slide in. Chamber the round with the bullet 'out too far' in the case so it stops against the rifleing. Gradually seat the bullet deeper into the case so that it will just chamber smoothly. Set up your die to make the loaded cartridge the right length for your gun.

Do you use a diffent lube when shooting in the cold I am just using a 50:50 lard and beeswax right now? How about breaths down the blowtube? -7 C sounds great, I my mercury says -29C this morning - The black powder is addictive, but today is definately a "reloading" day!

I've been using SPG applied by hand, filling all three grooves. I did use a blow tube that day. The three shot group was shots # 9, 10 and 11 of the day without wipeing, six strong breaths between shots. I was actually fooling around with lubes/loads/technique to see what would burn cleanest in this 36" long barrel.
-29C IS a reloading day! Makes -7C sound warm!

Load info: Standard disclaimer - don't try this @ home kiddies, I'm a trained expert (not!) lol.
- slightly expand case mouth, just large enough to accept the bullet.
-Fed mag pistol primer w/2X foil 'wad' cut and loaded while inserting primer. Place two layers foil between primer and case then insert primer, it will cut and install the layers into the cup.
- 70 gr FFg Goex dropped 24", then ten little taps on the table to settle.
- .510 nitro card .125 thick.
- compress about .30 using neck expaning die.
- 450 gr bullet from LEE mold, SPG worked into all the grooves.
- Bullet seated into the case by hand, no crimp.
This leaves 1.5 of the bullet's grease grooves exposed. That is the correct length for the long chamber in this gun.
This load works in my sporterized 1869 military rifle. It won't fit in my sport rifle.
This load may not shoot well in another rifle, but it will give you some ideas.
I tried a load with grease cookies on that day and all three shots missed the paper!

I find that using a blowtube and a good BP lube helps every bit as much in the cold as in the warm weather. Looks as though Smokepole has it all sorted out, and his groups show it, congrats!
