Not sure about Billet frames over Forged.. going milspec would be better right? and as for "works well" before "looks cool" Why can't you have both? I for one don't want junk sitting inside my vault.

I would not anticipate any problems at all with a billet lower. There are (or at least can be, I can't speak for any particular products) milspec in terms of critical fit areas, and beyond that the rest is cosmetic. They are not inferior to forged lowers, and some would argue that they are better. Honestly, I think it would be a challenge for a Canadian to wear out a billet or forged lower, five rounds at a time.

As far as looks vs. function, I didn't mean to suggest that any of these lowers you are looking at are inferior. I'm sure they're all top-notch products. Personally, I would spend the additional $200 on quality components for the rest of the gun, but as long as you aren't going to buy a customized lower then mount a Norinco upper on it, power to you and enjoy your new gun!

OK there is a problem with this project, Here is the issue. Tom Sawyer is no longer in business they sold there engraving to Orion-Arms which is fine. the problem is the Jolly Roger & Zombie Killer frames seen in this post was a one time project run. it can be copied but. the problem is getting frames that don't have a factory logo stamped on the left side which we see on the Jolly Roger & other frames. so it's very hard to find frames that are so called blank or without logo on them. Orion-Arms has still been doing custom jobs but in most cases on the right side only like in the pictures below. I don't know if this is something you all would like to do so I will set up a poll on another post then we will go from there. I do have a solution to this it would be a frame call the Mega Gator it is made to Mil-spec of 7076 T6 Aluminum forging CNC machined this would look ok with the bio-hazard & danger logo on the right side with a 3 word on the selector area like Zombies or Undead this would be for esthetics only. if you have a better idea or if this won't fly let me know. need order of 10+ NOTE: they can also make a custom LOGO http://www.orion-arms.com/samples.php

Keep in mind I'm still looking for a frame that has No factory logos. then we could make a true custom job. :dancingbanana:

If it's US made, I don't think they'll allow an unmarked finished lower out of the country.

We had a few custom marked lowers made that (I'm told) required a phone call to .gov for permission.

Could be wrong, but that's my understanding.

Cheers,
DT

By no means did I mean totally unmarked.. I meant the logo that a factory uses.. I expect all frames will have it's own serial number. with talking to the engraver they said if he had a line on frames that didn't have a factory name or logo on it he would buy them all. Like Stag has a deer on there frame & Rock River Arms has there name on there. these factory logos are all on the left side of the frame & there serial number is just below. this is a prime spot for a custom frame job. Hence we will have to find a frame that works best with the groups needs right now I think the best choice is Mega frame with the Bio-hazard and Danger logo both on the right side of the frame. unless someone has a better idea, as to come up with a different or limited frame.

CGN had Dlask make a limited edition frame, serial number & logo some time back about 4-5 years ago. there where only about 35 made. this is round 2 a new idea. Back then Dlask had a fit problem with some mags.

Does Orion have a manufacturing license? If so he could use 80% lowers and you could have anything you want put on them. I do believe that this is what Tom Saywer did for his projects since he's listed as the manufacturer on the lower.

Orion-Arms doesn't have the time to make his own frames. plus there was a concern about liability issues. He says he has enough work just in the custom engraving part. Also at this time he has another full time job. Keep in mind He does own this business. He said he'd be happy to help on our project. by the way if there was a CGN logo frame done. GreenTips must approve this first.. I believe he has the rights to the logo.

Looks like this post is starting to die off. Not sure if there is enough interest in a custom project, Plus it looks at this time the interest is all over the place. I myself like the top 3 of these I listed. but only can afford to do 1 project. these is almost enough to do a CGN project, that's if no one backs out. If we can get enough to do one of the others that would be cool. The PUNISHER was something I just thought of, kinda off the cuff & it looks like there is an interest in that as well. Keep in might I need at least 10+ to do another project. I would like to get these done & back before Xmas which would be a stretch. as for frames Orion fastest supplier is DPMS if there was a CGN run made I think I would try to get Stag for that. I was told that the CGN logo would be done better & larger then the last time.

Note: for the members that are selecting another brand frame in the Poll section, let use know what you have in mind.

I would be willing to contribute on a custom project. I'm already sure I'll be ordering a pretty amusing custom of my own.
