hi! i have a full size sig 1911 target elite 9mm that i'd like to install a red dot on.
it's not easy finding useful, reliable, current info on this from Canadian websites
should i buy an aftermarket slide with the cutout (where?) (prolly can't import pieces from US)
or find a sight that'll use the rear sight notch on the slide (i'd like to keep the iron as a backup, though).

has anyone done this successfully? was it worth the time/cost?
appreciate any input.
thx!

I'm in the midst of researching this myself.
I was going to get my commander slide with Novak rear sight cut milled for a mounting surface but was told that won't work.
CGN member Marshal (?) I think it was..... I'll check my pm's sent me some info I found useful.
Looks like my options are to source an adapter plate that uses the novak cut.
Now if you have a government profile slide with a standard type rear sight dovetail..... you may have more options available to you.
I was thinking about sourcing a stripped norinco slide or slide/barrel combo and having that slide milled but have not come across anyone selling a norinco commander slide

Personally I would get the slide milled. I never mounted a RDS on my 1911. But had a dovetail mounted on a CZ SP01 and kind of don't trust them. I sent my Shadow to be milled and use of an adapter plate. Plus don't like how high dovetail mounts make optic sit. Makes it harder to have backup sights. Luepold Delta Point mount and a RMS Shield optic would be the lowest optic combo you can get, that you probably still able to use irons. But that mount I really don't trust, unless you screw the dovetail adapter into the slide.

With a dust cover that has light mount rail cuts-

Why not purchase a bridge mount to mount said holo/device.

Slide it on the dust cover, install the pinch screw/bolt...done.

Remove the cross screw/bolt & once removed the slide can be removed for maintenance.

Most bridge mount allow open sight use.

Cost is approximately $30-$50 for the bridge mount.
