Hey folks,

Looking to get some lead into a couple brass sleeves for recoil reduction (458WM)

I have a couple brass pipes I’d like to fill, I’m guessing about 10-14 ounces each maybe.

Instead of buying all equipment to do this myself one time, I’m wondering if anyone who casts bullets would be open to filling these the next time they’re casting.

Also open to suggestions on how to do this, I have a friend who apparently has access to some old lead pipe and tire weights if it helps (I should be able to supply material or reimburse for your trouble).

I probably could put this in the reloading thread and apologize if it should be there, but the topic is a bit unique.

Regards,

Cody

I have used lead shot for the same purpose in the past. If you do it right it will act like a poor man's Mercury recoil reducer. Can't be done with many guns though...

Well, I have two holes drilled and the brass slides in nicely, my plan is to use springs at the back side of the brass tube, and some felt at the front, I think they have about 1.5” room behind them for travel, the brass tubes are about 5” long and have a 2mm step about half way.

The purpose for the step is that I can fit a 4” long spring that will compress down to about 2.5” (for 1.5” travel).

Planning to use a bit of felt (chair leg ends) to absorb the slap when moving forward after.

I built the stock from a slab, so its shape was done to make some room for the brass cylinders.

Edit: I wouldn’t want to hammer shot into the brass cylinders as it may distort its shape and bind instead of slide in the walnut.

The shot is supposed to stay loose. I dont know where you got the thought to be hammering anything? Your version is much more effort but may work as well, probably better!
