Anyone offering short .920 aluminum barrels?

I am looking to build a 10/22 for my kids and I want to go as light as possible.

I plan to use a Blackhawk Axiom stock and I want to use an aluminum barrel with steel core like TacSol and a few other companies make.

Does anyone know if it's possible to order a lightweight .920 barrel but under 16", I think I'll need a 11"-12" to remain 26" overall when fully collapsed.

Has anyone sourced a barrel like this? A full steel .920 barrel is not an option due to weight.

Any help is most appreciated.

I have an axiom stock, dlask bolt, CH22 receiver, tacsol barrel and trs-25
Loaded its 3.75lbs!
The barrel options to drop weight is, tacsol charger barrel or mag research barrel but the mr barrel is only an oz lighter.
If you are ever near Calgary, your welcome to try mine. I have an acreage to shoot on.

What length barrel did you go with?

the weight of an alumnium barrel with steel core at ~12" would be about the same as getting one of the dlask 8" steel barrels. alumnium is certainly lighter than steel but often people overestimate the difference and would underestimate how much steel is still in the combo barrels. another option would to be a carbon fiber with steel core. that would make much more of a difference.

I have a stubby 10/22 with a 9" Dlask on it so I'm familiar with the barrels and the weight. The issue is with the stock I plan to use I think I'll need a 12" barrel. A 12" bull barrel in steel with be a fair amount heavier than the aluminum with steel core 12" barrel.

This build will be for training my kids so I don't want it to be barrel heavy, I think with the Axiom stock a 12" aluminum will balance nicely.

Most of the time I agree with you. However I had an 8" dlask barrel and it sure wasnt 15oz!
It was over 1.5lbs iirc.
Plus I had the axiom stock an 8" barrel and unless pinned. It became prohib until it was reclassified
 
When you shorten the barrel on semi .22 that much you lose barrel pressure and that causes cycling issues.
You can run a super short barrel like a 10 or 12 but you will probably need to shoot high velocity 22 to function reliably
 
I have a 16.5" Whistle Pig fruited barrel that would fit your needs. I ordered direct when they still shipped to canada. Not sure if you could get one here now though.

I haven't had that experience with my 9", it was no more ammo picky than any other Rimfire I've used. I did polish the internals and chamfer the bolt to increase the reliability but I do that on all my 10/22 rifles.


This gun is great for me but too heavy for my kids and the LOP is too long for them too.

I think the Axiom plus the 12.25" TacSol Charger barrel would be perfect.

Now to find a Canadian source for that barrel.
