I'm contemplating placing an order directly from Lee Precision but before I do, I thought I'd solicit some feedback from the forum. Their website says they apply a US$4.00 service charge on all orders and that international orders are assessed a 35% fee to cover airmail and documentation costs. Some of their items, closeouts especially, are decently priced but an additional 35% for shipping drives the costs up pretty quick.

Anyone here order from them? Appreciate any and all feedback. Good, bad or indifferent. Thanx.

It doesn't need to be sent airmail to Canada. Most of the US shops don't consider us as international when it comes to shipping. Call them and see if they will ship USPS and if there are any fees for this.

ok- i've done it several times, but only small replacement parts and found great service- that 35% applies to INTERNATIONAL orders- if you look closer, there's different rules for CANADA- all that being said,HIGGENSON HANDLES ALL OF THE PARTS and being where you are will give you better service and shipping- the best way to find out is to get a pricelist unless you actually need parts, then it's best to just go ahead and order and he'll send one along anyway-
as far as the factory seconds and closeouts go, it's the WEIGHT as well as the shipping that kills you- when you add in those factors, you can be up to the price of a new unit at retail if you shop around- i got my loadmaster for the same money canadian as they were asking american, and it was already shipped here

I got a set of 3 dies from Lee last year, $48.00 at my door, completely painless to deal with. I am ordering another set next week. If you want the factory crimp that is extra.

I've also dealt with Lee Precision - during the 'Dark Days' when I owned a Lee LoadMonster... I mean LoadMaster. I've ordered many sets of Lee dies and found them to be adequate. Air Mail charges are unnecessary - you can contact customer service and have your items shipped ground. Lee customer service has always been very helpful and efficient. Too bad they weren't the ones designing their top end press.
A good email contact would be info@leeprecision.com.

Thanks to all for the replies and PMs! You've definitely filled in a few blanks. Sounds like they're good to deal with so I'll be giving them a call Monday.

If you do your homework maybe it will answer your Q.

You don't think asking CGNers for first-hand references isn't doing my homework?

If it's for in-stock stuff, Higginson's is probably faster.

If they don't have it or it's a special/custom order, I know at least 2 people who have had good service directly from Lee.

SIR carries LEE stuff and have prices lower than Higginson's. Their shiping rates are shipping rates pretty good as well :)

Actually you can place an order through their website.

I ordered some internal parts (I didn't think Higginson's carries spare parts but I might be wrong) direct from Lee via their website but somehow they missed the "Ship to" bit and instead of sending it to my US post box address it got sent to me here in BC. Took over two weeks and cost extra. They were very good about refunding the extra shipping, however. In future I think I'd phone the order in just to be on the safe side.

I always order direct, great people great service, just got a custom collet neck die, came 2 weeks early and was perfect. I have never had a problem either on the phone, or with online orders. Always specify US postal and not UPS.

I posed the question about Canadian shipping to Lee Precision, and here was the reply:

All international orders are charged a 35% export fee, including Canada

Hi Lee:

I'm interested in picking a few items up from you directly, but have heard conflicting reports concerning shipping.

Rather than the extra 35% for "international shipping" can you ship items to Canada by US Postal Service (Ground)? Other Canadian shooters have indicated that this is possible for a much more reasonable price.

Please advise and thank you :)

I have bought stuff direct before, no problems, good to deal with, but the end expense meant that I could usually have done better shopping north of the border.
The items I bought however, were items I'd have had to special order anyway.
