What do you think? Any good?

What are the general pros and cons of this rifle compared to a 9mm AR in terms of trigger, ergonomics, accuracy and durability/finish?

That is, besides the obvious disadvantage that they are prohib?

Any pics would be great too...

I don't have one but I gotta ask the question why will one want a 9mm that is so big???

No good reason. Half of my collection is made up of impractical firearms.

But you do raise a good point. For CQB purposes (which is what I assume this carbine was designed for), you cannot beat an MP5 if you are going 9mm, or an M4 IMHO, although I have zero experience in this field. For me shooting has been 99% fun, and 1% practical with a short few years where I carried overseas.

But personally I just like the AUG concept, but have never fired one in 9mm. I am interested to see how many are in Canada, and what people (owners and non-owners) think of them.

Oh yes, and the 9mm AUG's are actually a tad shorter than an MP5A3 (with fixed stock or 6mm longer with retractable stock extended). Plus I suppose you have slightly better velocities out of the 9mm given the AUG's 440mm barrel...

Mags are dear but built like tanks, trigger is rough but can be replaced, it's loud on the right ear if your not wearing defenders and plugs. It's very accurate, very compact, nicely balanced and can be converted to .223 and back in minutes. Comes in black or green and there are very few in Canada.

I doubt there are any in Canada in private hands. I had one years ago, it was an ex-police trial gun, had a lot of rounds through it, it was serial #3. Took me two days to clean it, it was so filthy. I also had another one that was deactivated, it had been used as a prop gun in movies.

There have been a lot of variations of the AUG-9.

Originally it was a conversion kit, then they improved it, then they starting making a bespoke carbine. Most of the differences between the models are in the magazine well. Early models had the ramp on the mag well adapter, on the bespoke one (later on, not on the first ones) they redesigned the receiver with the ramp on the receiver to improve reliability.

The mags are easier to change on the 9mm version because of the location of the catch on the mag well adapter. However the assembly itself is a big chunk of metal and it made the rifle butt-heavy. Because you lose barrel length upfront as well that made the gun very butt-heavy.

Also it uses the MPi-81 magazines, which are also made of metal and that makes it even heavier, plus 9mm rounds have a heavier bullet, so it's heavier still. Basically - very butt heavy.

Shame ####ty trigger pull obviously. The bespoke AUG-9 had a different reticle on the scope that was more suited to shooting 9mm, it was just a circle, no dot or cross in the middle. It also had angled cuts in the barrel to work as a compensator. It also had a ridge around the ejection port. This is one of the guns I had:

Triggers can be replaced and refined, as can the reticle with a circle and fine cross hair insert. It's a fabulous peice of kit actually! It is rear heavy now that I think on it but emptying the mag quickly rectifies that too. The ergonomics are superb and that's what I like the most about it.
