Anyone own a blr 81 long action?

Monty,

I gather that Doug is saying that because the lever action is inherently dangerous because of step that takes your rifle from full #### to half #### after you chamber a round.

Letting the hammer down while having the trigger engaged creates a further safety issue. If the hammer were to slip out from under a thumb then it would strike the firing pin because the half #### position which is created after you let off the trigger is bypassed as long as you have your trigger held tight.

On a BLR there is not a cross bolt safety as on the new .30.30's so you are looking for trouble when trying that with a BLR.

I'm a lifetime memeber of the Lever Action Acholics support group and the click doesn't mean a hill of beans.:D

Back to Mumptia........

With the BLR, the hammer is fully cocked and ready to fire after a round has been chambered. At this point, the hammer should be released under pressure, all the way down, and then pulled back to half-####/safe. When the hunter is about to shoot, he/she pulls the hammer back to full-#### and squeezes off the trigger.

My concern with Monty's proposal is that, in the excitement of the pre-shooting moments, not everybody has nerves of steel, nor are they necessarily highly conscious of EXACTLY what they are doing. (And the bigger the rack, the less one might focus on this kind of stuff...) So in the heat of the moment, yes they might fumble or whatever and BOOM goes the rifle when it is not intended to go BOOM...........

Whose sig line was that, the two loudest sounds on earth, a click when one expected a boom, and a boom when one expected a click............

Doug,

Change the should to could and I agree whole heartedly.

I do both. Let the hammer go all the way forward and then back and sometimes just to the half #### right away.

They both work fine.;)

I really like the folding hammer.
