No not one you did up to make tacticool looking either. :D

I am speaking of the one they advertise of as their Tactical Autoloading Rifle, specifically this one here off of Rugers site..

http://www.ruger.com/products/1022Tactical/models.html

What I'd like to know is this, does the front folding bipod system come off easily, like it clips, or bolts, dovetailed in, how is it held on and how easy does it come off?

Anyone who has one and can comment or show pics of how this is attached etc would be appreciated. I have a good friend looking at one for his young son and I want to help him research abit as he is constricted to under 600 bucks.

Thanks

Shawn

The bipod detaches very easily by undoing a little screw , you can see it in the pic ...it looks like an upside down t in the pic but is actually a small dime sized wheel that you unscrew. It attaches to a sling swivel stud.

Have you checked out Dlask yet....they sell the DAR22 for around the same price and from what I hear it is a better rifle.

I dont know.....I have a couple Harris bipods and the Savage one looks similar. My Harris bipods are a good quality bipod but they were over $100 each.

Personally I would go with the DAR 22 and add a bipod later if you want to.

The bipod basically has a couple "nipples" that clamp on the either side of the sling stud hole.
When you turn the screw the nipples pinch in and tighten up. (get your minds out of the gutter boys :p )

Some of these pics may help you out.

Ok I sorta see it now, when it is in fact tight is it fairly rugged or in all honesty is it a waist?

The bipod that comes with the Ruger is actually very good. I find it very sturdy and easy to use. It adds a little front weight but it is easy to take off without tools if your are not bench resting it. Personally, I like it very much and would recommend it.

Quick question to those who also own this bipod. The legs can be extended by loosening the two big nobs, but I've extended mine all the way, and now they won't retract at all. Has this happened to anyone else?

Just below, where the springs attach to the legs, there is a flat piece of metal with a bent down tab on it. (you can see them in pic #4)
PUSH that tab in towards the leg and it should pop up.

Yup, Wham-O is right on. I did the same thing at the range the first time I used it and had to take it home extended. Figured it out by watching a youtube video on it. It's so easy I felt like a bit of a numpty!

That's how it works, alright. Be careful not to have your finger on the inner (lower) leg, though - when the lower leg shoots up, it can catch the skin of your finger and pinch the heck out of it...

i have a couple harris bipods and the one that comes on the vleh works great and is very sturdy. like others have said it comes off easily and ive had no complaints. if only ruger would drop the overly used term "tactical" off of this great little rifle. bipods dont make anything tactical but this gun is very "practical" and put together with lots of great parts right out of the box.
