Anyone put a Black Scope on a Stainless Barrel???

My very first leftie hunting rifle is a Ruger 77mkII ss and it sports its original Leupold VXIII 2.5-8 and yes, its matte black. I have had the barrel glass beaded to take the shine off and the black scope looks quite nice sitting there. Never gave it a thought but I have to say I dont like silver scopes anyways. Too much flash for me

My T/C pro hunter has a black scope and I think it's the only way to go. I would make a bet that in 5 years there would be no more stainless scopes being made.

Another advantage is that it goes with everything. What if you want to move your silver scope onto a blued rifle with dark wood? Not happening-that would just be so wrong. So better to get a black matte that will go on anything plus looking good.

However, it is nice to have a ###y looking rig, to show off at the hunt camp in the fall.

I'm not sure "###y" is a good word to use here or more importantly at the hunting camp. It's not a good fit among normal men.

I use matte and gloss scopes cuz that's what I own. No other reason.

This has been my main "go too" deer rifle since bought new in '98. Recently replaced synthetic stock with a CDL. Scope is a matt Leupold VariXIII 3.5-10X40. I like the look, so did the 20+ deer it's taken.

My rigs are all mix and match. Currently have a gloss black Leupold VX1 2-7 with silver rings on a TC Triumph that has the silver/gray Weathershield barrel. My Cooey 71 has a silver Leupold VX2 3-9 with silver rings on a blued base on a blued barrel. I'm all about function, not looks. I won't spend hundreds on a new scope just cause it may not match the rifle I buy. I use what I have.

Function and esthetics can be had in one package, so why not? I wouldn't go buy a new truck that was black, with a green hood and purple doors, if it was going to save me a couple hundred dollars. By the same token, I wouldn't buy a truck that wasn't going to suit my needs, just because it was nice looking. Just saying, one doesn't have to be mutually exclusive.

I don't think mixing things up is bad at all... I have seen lots of black scopes on stainless guns... looks great to me. I kinda mixed things up a bit on my Venture... I used stainless rings on a black scope so there would be something else stainless on the gun along with the bolt handle.
