Anyone put a muzzleloader on an ATF Form 6NIA?

I am contemplating deer hunting in Michigan this fall with my CVA inline muzzleloader. Random people have told me that I don't need to put a black powder muzzleloader on an ATF Form 6NIA for crossing the border, but I decided to contact the ATF and this is the reply I received:

"Black powder muzzleloaders are generally not considered to be firearms under the Gun Control Act and you would not require an ATF Form 6NIA to temporarily import for purposes of hunting. With that said, you may still wish to submit a Form 6NIA application to avoid any issues that may arise when attempting to cross into the United States. Thank you."

So, anyone here successfully put an inline muzzleloader on their Form 6NIA? I assume "50 cal" for Caliber, and for ammunition, not sure, "handloads by self"? Powerbelts? Hornady projectiles in a plastic sabot?

I use IMR WhiteHots and Hornady 250gr XTP projectiles in a black plastic sabot and Federal shotgun primers.

I'd use as many lines as necessary to write just that, taking care to include each and every manufacturer of each and every firearm and component
 
wasa - I have never done what you propose to do - do not lose track that you will cross an International border to face USA laws and their enforcement of them, then on return will cross same border and face Canadian laws and Canadian enforcement of them - will be different standards (?) - for sure different people (officers) - so is likely to your benefit to have paper that shows that you left Canada with that item, and are returning with it - NOT newly "importing" it. But just my view - not based on reading anything or having done so myself ...

Thanks for the note. I already have a few ATF Form 6NIAs with "regular" firearms on them for 3-gun competitions in Michigan. So far, no issues both going into the USA and coming back to Canada. I agree with Wendell that adding extra info can't hurt. All it takes is one officer to take exception to something in my car/possession and then I would have a very bad day.
 
Yes I have muzzleloaders on my form 6: modem and antiques. No issue

I would double check with Global Affairs Canada to confirm you don’t need an import permit to return to Canada if you’re transporting handguns. Historically we didn’t but things have changed.

Thanks! I sent off my completed Form 6NIA yesterday, listing my CVA muzzleloaders. Hopefully no issues. Wasn't sure what to put for "Ammunition" so did the whole "handloads, loaded by self" and then "saboted HP / PowerBelts". Not sure if the ATF will care.

And yes... I am following the various forum posts about getting my pistols back into Canada. September 17th is my next Michigan 3-gun match. I assume (ha ha) that we'll have sufficient info by then to figure out if I'm going or not.
 
Well, last week received an approved Form 6NIA with my inline muzzleloaders on it. Guess we'll see if they ask for it if i deer hunt in Michigan
