in the middle of a project..... that you all will have to wait to find out about! but im in need of a good smith to tune a 1911 for me?

anyone recommend one?
basically i have a new norc 1911 that im gonna be doing some alterations too, but i thought it might be nice to get it tuned and running smooth before i start.

i know Armacor (gunner) use to do good work, i think he has farmed out his gunsmithing now?
i heard Dlask does some?

anyone know any good smiths in western provinces that tune Norcs up uber nice?

ive done my own a few times but i want one done by a smith real nice like for once.

thanks for the help and ill let you guys in on my project once i get all the pieces in place and get going with it, ohhhhh its gonna be fun fun fun!

Rodger Kotanko, in Ontario.

He builds very nice 1911s and I find his prices very reasonable.

turn around time is good, too.

Highly recommended.
My friend's Norinco 1911 had Rodger done the trigger. It is night and day different.

Cutting in Novak sights...20 thou gap under the rear. Granted, that was on a pistol I kind of considered a beater anyway, but you can't butcher work like that even if it's on a pistol that doesn't mean much to the owner.

I sent him pics of the ####up because he thought it wasn't a big deal...didn't hear back. No doubt I could have chased the guy down but the amount of dicking around involved over a gun that was kind of a goof-off project for me to begin with didn't really warrant the level of fight I figure I'd have to put up to get the gun welded and remachined.

It shoots fine...but then all the internals were ones I fit. I didn't have a mill at the time and just needed the sights cut in, and the gun refinished. Obviously now I'd just mill it myself but that's life.

Anyway now I have what is probably the best-fit and most-modified Norinco frame in the country, with a massive glaring ####up on top. So thanks, DI.

edit: I was gonna recommend Gunnar before reading your entire post.

Yeah, from what I've read he's delegating more work to apprentices in recent years but if these apprentices are learning from him that should be worth something.

Thanks for the information. Sorry to hear your unhappy experience.
He isn't my gunsmith but I saw his work on my friend's Norinco 1911. It was tune out great

To the op.
You can try Murray Charlton Enterprise which he is at BC. He did service my revolves. Awesome guy and excellent work.

Unless you don't mind waiting forever with no response to emails or phone calls and eventually have to have a nutter go pick up your gun and have them ship it to you, I'd stay clear of Armco.

I had Murray Charlton work on my 625 to slick up the double action trigger pull for IPSC.
It came back unsafe. The single action did not work and the hammer would fall at random, sometimes in DA it would and sometimes it wouldn't...
I sent it to another gunsmith to fix it and it came back quickly and it functioned for about a day before FTF's started showing up, in one club match it went from great to non functional...
Turns out the trigger job was just backing out the strain screw...at least it was easy for me to get it back working (and its been good ever since- lock tight can be your friend).

Gunnar has quit doing smithing- his equipment has gone to Clarence (bumblbee custom machine). He made a pistol for me and it's very nice- a custom STI Trusite in 40 S&W hard chromed, with a stippled grip, aftec, aftermarket trigger, etc... It also has a hard chromed 9x40 barrel (with sight, no expansion chamber and link/recoil spring/rod) that matched to it. I also had an open top end built for it as well- hard chromed, 9x40, melted in STS sight, lightening holes, etc...I also got several sizing dies and a complete fire control system spare that is fitted to that gun, plus some other odds & sods.
Naturally something like this wasn't overnight nor was it inexpensive and it did have more than a few teething problems in the beginning that were mostly ammo related (that were my error!) but all my concerns were looked after.
Plus I never played with a wildcat before and being remote I had to learn a few things the hard way..
With the ammo sorted out the gun just plain rocks.

Let me guess! You're gonna send your 1911 to get Nerf cerakoted like burtjani's SG542?? ;)

Bcm is Clarence's gun smithing business in pg....he's a good guy, he used to work with Gunnar, and now runs his own shop, don't confuse the two...I had two deals with Gunnar, and zero problems...he was however a little slow to return emails....

I haven't had work done by him yet, but for what it is worth, the guys at Freedom Venture recommended and referred me to dark international as well.

not super thread relevant... but you should be able to have a bomar cut into that slide to elimiate the ####ty novak cut on it. Might not be what you wanted but would look way better im sure
